Diamonds and tall pilots!
I am 195 cm I can fit in a C-152 but what about a diamond.
Are there any tall pilots ou there that has flown the diamond. I am a little bit concerned because you can not adjust the seat height in these aircrafts. |
I'm 186cm and with a headset on it can just touch the roof, will have to strap in tight during turbulence! I also have the rudder pedals as far away from me as possible.
The best option for you would be to find a Diamond operator and pay them a visit - it will cost nothing to sit in the aircraft to see how you fit! I should add I'm referring to the DA42 Twin Star - I haven't as yet been in a DA20 or DA40! |
the top of my head is 3 inches above the cannopy on a DA42 thats without a headset! The DA40 is about the same. Oddly I can get into a DA20 just! If you bend a bit you can get in. You get used to it! Its no good comparing peoples heights, its your back length that matters (sitting height) mine is nearly 40 inches.
|
If it's any use to you: I'm 6'5" and was worried about the same thing - I sat in a DA40 at the Fly show recently to make sure and fitted in there OK... That's 195cm by the way if you're feeling modern.

Thanks for the replys. It should not be a problem. I smallest aircraft I have flown is a cessna 150.

NEW QUESTION FOR THE POST (but still related) : is there a minimum height for pilots?
im not changing the topic! just evolving the origional one :P |
Well, Its better to be to tall then to short. If you sit in the 767 cockpit you will understand.
But there are many very short pilots out there. If you are about 150cm then maybe you need to bring along a pillow to sit on. |
Minimum height..
There are probably no hard and fast rules about heights that I am aware of, the important factor is that your various limbs need to be able to reach and fully operate the aircraft controls. Most airlines would specify a height range, for example BA require you to be between 5'2" and 6'3".
As for light aircraft, I know many people who sit on a cushion to get a better view! |
Try both DA40 and DA42 for hight
For Jimmy The Big Greek:
I can see from your profile that we live in Greece. You can try both the DA40 and DA42 Diamond aircraft for hight in Greece at Egnatia Aviation based at Kavala International Airport. There is going to be an Opening Event and probably an international fly-in (to be confirmermed soon) on July 8th. You are (all) welcome to visit us at any time and try out the aircraft anyway. Take care George :) |
Hi there, I am 6'4", loads of space for me and my huge feet.
