Ground Training Services Bournemouth
Hi all!
Just a quick one to see if anyone has had dealings with, or completed the ATPL distance learning course at GTS in Bournemouth. Heard from a few local people they are very good. I was just wondering if anyone has any more views or recomendations about where else does distance learning? Many thanks Expedite:D |
I seem to recall it is run by Roger Henshaw and David Webb, who are ex PPSC guys, along with Peter Swatton and Derek mmmm, can't remember Derek's surname (think it might be Horton), but yes, very good, you won't go wrong.
All the best. |
Excellent notes. Superb instructors (some of whom contributed to writing the exam papers). You, sir, would be a fool to do DL anywhere else.
|
I did my atpls at bristol.gs ... I had an average 95% pass rate, all first time passes, and had a blast at the 2week brush up course...
(To Alex : thanks a lot... great work from you guys ps:did ken get his medical eventually?) |
Many thanks guys,
From looking at the thread on PAT, it would also seem that the "quiet" schools on the marketing and nonsense front could well be the best in providing the highest quality of training? Any thoughts? Expedite :ok: |
I finished at GTS recently. V Good establishment. More like a private tutors than a "sausage school".
It's Roger, Dave and Pete (all ex RAF) plus a couple of specialists for special subjects like POF(H) for us rotating types. Notes - excellent. Exam feedback - more then excellent. Detail taught (you learn stuff that you remember not just get crammed) - excellent People - excellent A rare gem h-r (v satis):ok: NB I see your ex RAF so you'd appreciate Dave's humour .... |
I second the comment that it's more like having private tutors. They even taylor-made the consolidation course in order to meet my schedule. I think that the notes / tests provided from the school are a bit too difficult than necessary but by looking at other notes (Oxford, Nordian) this seems to be the norm with many schools.

GTS CPL distance learning course
Any students ? - present and past of GTS.
I wish to get any feed back on the GTS ( Ground Training Service) in Bournemouth. I wish to study for the CPL Theory exams - as I wish to instruct in the future. I have been impressed with my dealings with GTS so far - very expierenced instructors and prompt replies to queries. I would plan to use their CPL course and then subscribe to all other ATPL forums/ question banks etc - using all resources out there. There seem to be some highly recommended schools - Bristol , Cranfield , CATS etc etc - but only GTS does CPL tailored courses - leaving out the two extra ATPL subjects. Any thoughts on this school - and any other suggested resources for pre ATPL / CPL studies - databases, books etc. Maths and Physics particularly . I have read repeatedly on Prrune of the need to be sh-t hot on the CRP 5 ( or similiar) wizz wheel. By the way - in a pilot shop recently ( I have a quiet life) - I did 3 examples of wizzwheel questions on the much suggested CRP 5 and also on my two wizzwheels - an alloy ASA EB 6 and an Aviat 617 wizzwheel - the Aviat 617 is much clearer and easier to read than the CRP 5 - and got the right answer !! So I dont feel the need to buy yet another wizzwheel - much as I marvel at them - call me old fashioned ! many thanks |
They are great. Would only recommend even looking at GTS, Bristol and CATS.

GTS Bournemouth
Hi There.
Im booked on the ATPL crammer course at GTS in Bournemouth on the 21st may-1st June, is anyone going down there on those dates? if so any reccomendations on where to stay? im looking for a single room with en-suite, and possibility of evening meal as im a growing lad (outwards i think) any help will be very much appreciated. Oceanicclarence. |
I think like most flight training organisations they will able to provide you with a list of local accommodation,
|
I move out of my current digs tomorrow before i move into a flat. I could recommend where i am staying. Great family and good location.
|
See if the Lewis's are still having people stay at their place. Great family. wifi, etc. GTS have their phone no. and address.
|
A superb outfit.
Im currently on my brush up (mind bashing) course at the moment. They will completely beast you during the two weeks. Dont expect any time off at weekends or the evenings. Its only for the two weeks though. Yes I will agree that some of thier papers are a little 'over cooked' on the level required compared to that of the actual exams. Pete's flight planning and performance papers will consume you and have you a quivering wreck!! Roger and Dave know thier subjects inside out! Dave makes POF understandable and the new gentleman there, John who does the airframes side of things is also a top instructor and a gentleman. As mentioned and as Pete likes to stress, they teach you the knowledge you need to know to be a professional pilot, not a button pusher. Top school overrall, combine them with the Bristol Q`bank and your laughing. :D :ok: |
Roger sends out a list of accom with the JI's. If you want it quicker, then just AAsk.
True what Expedite says. They teaches you stuff for life, not just to pass the exam (they do that too). Even for heli pilots. h-r;) |
