feedback from todays Gen Navigation exam
Some goodies for todays exam I remebered.
Thought it was a far from unfair paper, unlike the last time i sat it. Couldnt believe how some questions were word for word verbatim feedback stuff i had seen, especially questions that require calculations. Thats me all done save the 2 comms papers. tis been a horribilis past year studying for these. hopefully, it get easier from now on. cheers 1 On a transverse mercator, the parallel of latitude other than the equator is: A an ellipse B parabolic C hyperbolic D straight line 2 You are 200nm from your destination. If the pilot wants to get compass heading and wrongly input 2W as magnetic variation instead of 2E by how much would his cross track error be at the end of the flight? A B 70 Nm C 7nm 3 Variation west means A true north is east of magnetic north B true north is west of magnetic north C magnetic north is east of compass north D Magnetic north is west of compass north 4 A tailwind of 10kt is required for landing. The runway is 05 (047M). the wind by ATIS is given as steady 120. What will the max allowed wind speed be? A 11kts B 8kts 5 The first page on entering the FMS is A IDENT B POS INIT C RTE D PERF INIT 6 First integration of the E/W accelerometers is an INS gives: A Velocity along the local vertical B Change of Longitude C Departure 7 Aircraft position 52’30N 8’20’W Which of the following entries gives the radial the aircraft is flying and its distance A 209 from CORK/41nm B 029/89 from CORK/41 8 What is the aircrafts heading in magnetic and distance from Waterford to Kerry? A 278/90 nm B 270/90nm 9 Transverse Mercators are mostly used for? A Routes covering countries with large north south extent B equatorial regions C polar regions 10 For polar region navigation you would use what type of chart? A Mercator B Steroegraphic C Conic 11 If the INS loses its alignment in flight what should be done? A no longer usable, must be switched off B can no longer be used in NAV mode 12 In ATT mode the INS/IRS?? can provide? A heading, attitude information B attitude information only C attitude, heading and groundspeed D heading and navigation information 13 During a flight you cross two parallel roads. What information can you derive from the time take between the 2 features? A track B drift C groundspeed D heading 14 Position A 60S 177E position B 60S 165W What is the difference between the rhumb line track and the great circle track? A 4.5’ B 7 ‘ C 15.5’ 15 In what plane is gyro wander known as drift? A horizontal and vertical B vertical C neither D horizontal 16 One about which latitude the parallel of origin would be when given 2 standard parallels The answer I was pretty sure was 0.39 I think the 2 standards were at 04’15N to 42’???N? |
Well, I did the paper today too and have one question.......how on earth did you remember those questions like that......if your brain wasn't dead afterwards you must like numbers!!
Add onto you list although not specifically.... PLENTY OF PET/PNR/TIME ADJUSTMENT questions which I hear is unusual in that amount - I believe there were two full pages of them. |
GEN NAV
HI, I also did the GEN NAV Paper,
I didnt think there were much whizz wheel questions were only about 4-5 finding G/S and heading etc,,,,,, quite a few theory questions I agree how do u remember it all! there was one question i do remember is something in the lines of finding finding ETA at B. u depart at 1130 g/s 315 theres a fix at 165nm at 12:05 find eta .........cant remember exactly! good luck with the RESULTS!!!! E.T |
Also a 3 mark question about flying Guam to LA (California) - 11hr 30min flight and you leave Guam at 2300.
What time do you arrive and date - this question up!!! |
couldnt believe my luck when i saw this one. the answer was 1715 30 April.
It was word for word a feedback q. If you answered the q without looking at the footnote you'dve got 1615. the footnote says that california that time of year (from beginning of April ) is 1 hour fast fast on the stated time. |
Chinito,
I know saw it myself but wasnt sure which one it was - 3 marks also!!! :( |
All times are GMT. The time now is 15:43. |
