Pheww, that was close!

I though I was wasting my £35000 then:rolleyes:

I could not afford the integrated route even if I wanted to.

I agree the distance learning part takes allot of time and dedication which is very difficult & having someone there to help you through the tough times would be great but saving £25000 motivates the hell out of me!

Maybe its because im a tight fisted Yorkshire man

Looks like this old intergrated Vs modular debate is going to be expanded to encompass a third upstart youngster soon. Anyone see the article in this week's Flight International? The powers that be have approved a new course format for going 0 to RHS of a multi-crew aircraft. It says courses are due to start in 2006 and the main points were:

-qualifies you for multi-crew only
-lots more sim time, much less hands-on
-supposed to be cheaper and quicker

Anyone care to speculate on what this might mean? I haven't seen any costs (they didn't say), and it's over a year off. I wonder if anyone with the luxury of time (not me!) might decide to hold off a year or so for this?

Interesting six-sixty ,

I recently went to a presentation at Stapleford Flight Club, where the MD of Bond/Astraeus presented what he predicted would be the next big training programme - 0hrs to B737/A320 + 100hrs line training. SFC have teamed up with Astraeus to provide this pioneering programme for £50K.

Obviously, their aim is to poach integrated course candidates by throwing in a type rating and line training for the same price.

This type of programme is still in it's infancy - it will be interesting to see how the airlines respond.

GA, I'm afraid your very wrong I have started in the RHS of a jet with only minimum hours and I'll of my training was done modular!

I know of at least 8 others who were in exactly the same position as myself.

Before this turns into another Oxford Bashing/Integrated vs Modular debate I think we need to remember a couple of facts:

1. Integrated works for some, not for others. If you want to spend the extra, go ahead. There are other options. As Oxford Blue stated it is all horses for courses and each set of circumstances must be assesed rather 'Modular is better than integrated because....' I am not going to say what I personally think as I think you can look that up if you are really interested as my circumstances are mine, others are others. Maybe 'Send Clowns' was missold a course but that isn't a reason to begrudge the system, nor discount it if you think it will benefit you and you have the money.

2. Oxford do a great job of training both Modular and Integrated but many go there on the premiss that it will improve their employment opportunities and Mike will get them a job at the end. He wont, you will. If you want that, then try your hand at CTC. Some schools have traditionally had good links with airlines and get the odd call for a reccommendation. You may get one from Oxford but the chances are VERY slim certainly not worth the gamble if that is your prime motivation. Enough said. If BA are going to take ab initio's again I am almost certain Oxford would be getting a call, but as would CTC and Jerez.

As for Go Around. I think he is badger baiting, I dont think anyone with any sense could make a statement like that. If you are not, then I pity you mate because you have already got your head in the clouds!

As for this new multi crew licence - sounds interesting. Would rather this system though from what little i have read. Part of the fun in all this is actually flying - be it solo in a PA 28, or your first trip in a multi on your own. As I see it this course misses out all the fun parts, fast tracking you to an airline seat. Good for those not in it for sheer enjoyment and flying but just wanting the 'glamour' and being able to tell people they fly airplanes. Bad for those of us who just love flying.
This is based on what I have read, I await further developments with interest.
