Today's POF Exam
To those who took the POF exam today.. a few questions..
Q1 - Stall warning in a transport aircraft Two options were a - Stick(shaker or pusher dont remember which) b - Stick(shaker or pusher dont remember which) and/or Aerodynamic buffeting.. I am pretty sure one of those was the answer, but not sure which. Anyone else remember any of the questions on there.. The test was 44 questions, 47 marks. 3 3 markers included questions on: Propeller power ( i think the answer was Thust - Brake) Climmb gradient (I didnt even come close) and another which i cannot remember. |
The climb gradient I had no idea how to do. It was alnong the lines of: Twin engine aircraft, each engine 60,000N thrust, L;D 12.1, what is the climb grad.
In an expansion wave as the air passes through the wave: LSS Decrease LSS Increases Reamains Constant It seemed like a a fairly reasonable exam, although I hope those words dont come back to haunt me this time! |
The question about the local speed of sound was that the LSS will decrease..
I am cautiously optimistic about this one.. |
POF is a subject you need to know, you can't wing it.
Q1. In an expansion wave the temp will decrease ( so use your wizz wheel to work out what will happen to LSS. Q2. L/D ratio is 12/1 ( I think you will find the A/C wt was 50 metric tonnes) so drag is 500,000Kgs. 500.000 / 12 = 41.667 Total trust is 60.000 x 2 engines = 120.000 120.000 - 41.667 = 78.333 / sin gamma. sin gamma = opposite / hypottenuse. 78.333 / 500.000 x 100 = 15.67 % Grad. This question is one that is on the CAA website, i don't know which school you are with but they should have made you aware of it. You could try having a look at this site www.bristol.gs/forum.htm and go to Pof. As said you really need to know this subject. Hope that helps. |
