Access to student loan to fund ab initio ATPL training?

Hi guys,

I'm wondering if student finance can help pay fees of flight training (in UK as I'm a UK citizen).

If you need a loan to pay for training then you can't afford the training

What are you going to do if you don't finish the training, lose your medical or can't find a job if you finish?

Please don't go down that road of getting a loan to pay for pilot training, it's already a big risk even if you have the money sitting in the bank

Yeah that's true. I'm researching flights schools in the UK and rest of europe. I'm particularly keen on a flight school in germany called european flight academy which is managed by the lufthansa group. One way to pay for training at this school is through deferred payments through a salary with one of the Lufthansa Group airlines when you finish training (currently its eurowings europe). I only asked if there was student finance options in the UK just as a backup to get into flight school just in case if I wasn't successful in getting into the european flight academy.

The simple answer is no. The student finance service wonít pay the fees (or provide a loan) for this sort of training as they only provide funding if youíre attending a registered educational institution. None of the flight training organisations are classed as these.

There is a degree option attached to some of these training courses but I believe itís classed as distance learning and the funding available is very little. The degree option doesnít include any flight training and you still have those costs on top of this. The degree is provided by a university although I canít remember which one.

For the European Flight Academy you need to also be fluent in German.

For the MPL program at EFA, it does require you to be fluent in German but the ATPL program requires you to be fluent in English (which is the program i'm applying for in August)
