Oke student pilot, my name is Chuck Yeager, I am your instructor today.
Lets start with the preflight checklist.

PREFLIGHT CHECKLIST:

1. MASTER SWITCH ON
2. DO THE WALKAROUND (AT LEAST FOR 20 MINUTES)
3. HAVE A COFFEE BREAK,MASTER SWITCH ON

typically Hobbs receive power through the master switch but are also wired in series with an oil pressure switch so they don't run until theengine starts

Older aircraft frequently have a Hobbs meter installed which is only connected to the electrical system and not to the oil pressure sensor.
