Type rating for airbus aircrafts

I was wondering how the process of getting a typerating works.
I'd love to go straight for the a380 but I doubt that's how it works. Do I have to first get a type rating for the a320 or maybe a330 and then build my way up? If possible I'd hope to get started flying with the largest airbus aircraft possible.

First you buy yourself a type rating, then later you find out that no one is going to employ you with no experience.
Then later you discover pay to fly, pay a lot more money, and still find no good job. That's how it works.
