ATPL training medicals.
Hi All,
First off I apologise as I understand this is probably a question that as been asked a million and one times already, but I'm finding the wording in the EASA and CAA regulations and guidelines as clear as mud (makes a change.)
I'm currently looking at professional pilot training, I have a PPL but the one issue is, my eyesight isn't as sharp as I'd like it (thanks genetics), I wear both lenses and glasses, my lenses in my left eye are dead on -6.0 myopia, so I estimate my glasses to be either -6.25 or -6.5.
Now, in the guidelines it states nobody with myopia over -6.0 can gain an ATPL through EASA, something I found hard to believe they could justify, but hey, rules are rules...
Is there any way that they make exceptions to this rule? How strict are they on it?
Also what stance do they take on psychoactive medicine, in particular SSRI's?
Thanks for any responses!

Your best bet is to find an Aeromedical Examiner and ask these questions from them. That is the safest way to get 100% truthful information, as most of us here can only speculate. Below you'll find a link to a list of the AMEs in the UK. Best of luck!

As long as you can see 6/9 with correction you are good to go.
If you consider having eye surgery there are no pre-operative limits for myopia and astigmatism. I had over -6 until a week ago, then had Lasik... I shall re-instate my medical in 3 months.
