Hi, first post, expecting a flaming.

I'm John; I expected to find an 'introduce yourself' part of the forum but didn't find it. I want to ask, on a personal level, if I should proceed.

I have a few hours towards my PPL and am about to start circuits/ need to get a medical. I haven't discussed my goal with my instructor for fear of being knocked down! However I have talked to friends & family: they say "see how far you can go.."

I have mild/moderate dyscalculia. and no C's to my name.

I am a franchisee, and about to sell a business which will kick start my flying career.

I am selling the franchise because I'm about to move to Oxford. Who's the best CPL instructor in the North Oxford area?

If you ask questions like
Who's the best CPL instructor in the North Oxford area
then expect some flack as you clearly do not understand, nor taken the effort to understand the commercial aviation world. You rarely get to pick your instructor even for PPL.

Your number 1 priority if you wish to continue down the the commercial route is to go to Gatwick and get a CLASS 1 MEDICAL as without it you can't be a commercial pilot.

All the information you are seeking as been asked countless times on this forum and you should use the search function

I can't believe you are even thinking of selling a franchise to become a commercial pilot without in depth research, similar to buying your franchise, or you were you sold a dream? Aviation is a similar story.

I wish you the best but the signs aren't good.

I hope this won't sound blunt, it's just a bit of a heads up really.

First off as said, get a class one medical done at Gatwick.

Next, I would try to find a friendly instructor (or otherwise) who can go through some of the more mathematical stuff that may be required both in flight and for the ground exams. I apologise if this sounds patronising but I don't understand much about dyscalculia and this was a thought that came to mind.

In no way do you have to be a genius or straight A student to do so, but depending on ability, it may be quite tough. On the practical side it shouldn't be too bad, there is some fairly basic stuff involving 3 and 6 times tables etc. On the theoretical side, for the ATPL exams there are a couple of subjects (mainly General Navigation) which do require some trigonometry and manipulation of formula and numbers.

I just think it would be a good idea to get a good idea of what lies ahead. If you can't find someone to go through this stuff with you (maybe some discussion involving your strengths and weaknesses and maybe some examples of whats involved) I would suggest getting in touch with Bristol Ground school. They are a provider for the ATPL theory course in distance learning form, and I found them a top bunch of people when I was there and they might be able to advise a bit (One of their instructors, Tony Pike (IIRC) teaches G Nav and was extremely helpful to some students while I was there). Jesus really? Glad I live in this part of the world......If someone told me I couldn't pick my instructor I'd tell them where to stick it and take my money elsewhere.

Welcome to PPRuNe and to the Wannabee Forum. Don't worry about the flaming - I deal with that!
You will find plenty of people here who wish to help you get a foot on the first rung of the ladder but there are also some routine 'naysayers'.
May I suggest that you ask the medical question in that forum where you will find some equally helpful but better qualified folk to answer?
As for the more general aspects, I really do suggest that you take time to peruse some of the threads in here where you will find that most of your concerns have been asked and answered.
