Night Rating in South Scotland/Borders
I have just completed the ATPL theory exams in Malta, and need to do my night rating before i start my CPL etc. Unfortunatly here in Malta ATC do not allow VFR traffic during night time, i will be moving back to Edinburgh after i have built up my hours, can anyone reccomend a school which is able to do a night rating? Edinburgh flying club do not, Dundee do not.
Any help much appreciated.

Coming into the wrong time of year for a night rating with a school, it might be worth finding a freelance/self employed instructor to do it with, if you are near to a 24 hr airport and either you or the instructor can solo hire an aircraft.

Prestwick Flight Centre and Prestwick Flying Club do the night qualification. Glasgow Flying Club could if the BAA would let them.
I'm surprised that Edinburgh and Dundee don't.
Why not just tag it onto your CPL training?
Up here it's that time of year when you'd be starting very late indeed.

Dundee are awkawd sods.
PIK will do it but its just getting hold of someone willing to do it.
You only have to complete the training for it and it can be done by any ICAO instructor as long as you have the required bollocks in your log book about full stop landings for the IR its not required for CPL (or didn't used to be in case)
This whole moving states for cpl issue is a pain in the bum so I would contact your regulator in the first instance to find out what they want cause the maltese ATPL exams arn't valid for a CPL issued in the UK.

India Mike - what do you mean tag it onto your CPL ? im doing my CPL at Dundee and they told me they do not do night rataings.
Mad Jock - There are quite a few other Maltese pilots who have done the ATPL in Malta and completed their IR's CPL's in various british flying schools....as far as im aware there is not an issue there but can u tell me otherwise?
Northumbria have confirmed that they do it, so do multi flight at leeds, however they told me it depends on the availability of instructors. Will keep trying Prestwick and Glasgow.
Cheers for the help!

Sorry when I said tag it onto CPL training I didn't mean to suggest that it could be done as part of the CPL - I meant that when you're at your training provider do 5 hours at night when you won't be CPL'ing.
If I recall correctly you only need the 5 hours night for CPL issue. You don't even need the 'qualification' in your licence, just do 5 hours at night. Therefore you only need to have when you're at the point of applying for the licence.
Nobody's suggested Inverness - maybe a bit far for you and even less dark at this time of year! Even at Pik there might be local restrictions on circuits beyond a certain time - I'll check.

Dundee (Tayside) do night qualifications, always have, just not in the middle of summer since the airport closes before it gets dark. You will have that problem at this time of year - although probably not in Australia.

Billiebob is of course correct - an aspect of the night/CPL thing that had escaped me.
Given your CPL at Dundee, guess that means that you can't tag the night flying on to that course.
Checked with Pik ATC and there are no restrictions on night circuits. I guess that means you could bash the circuit over here very late/very early.
Try the Flight Centre first. If no joy there then PM me if you're stuck.
Good luck
