CABAIR's OFT vs SOUTH AFRICA ATPL

I'm looking to do my ATPL (frozen) the year after next, and I was talking to a friend of mine who mentioned that its a load cheaper to do it out in SA, could anyone shed any light on this? Is it cheaper and does anyone have an schools they could recomend? and if they do JAA ATPL so i wont have to convert my licence afterwards?

South Africa is much cheaper than the UK, about 40-50% cheaper per hour. However there are no JAA schools out there, so you would have to convert when you came back as you would only have an ICAO license.

The main schools are 43rd Air School at Port Alfred. Algoa Flying Club at Port Elizabeth, and APTRAC also at Port Elizabeth - google them for more info, or use the search facility on here and that will pull up some info on them too - (not allowed to post direct links to the clubs due to the forum advertising rules).
