Hey dude, what's occurring? No news for five weeks now - I was following your progress with interest.

Well I don’t know what’s happened to Kangy but I started my CPL at Stapleford on the 3rd Sept and passed my skills test last Friday! Very happy with the school, instructor was great, worked us hard but at the same time put our minds at ease when we’d struggled with something. No complaints from me at all, the course was run very well with no a/c availability problems and my instructor always available to talk to either on site at Stapleford or on the end of the phone. I completed the course in 5 weeks but had it not been for a bit of poor weather in the last weeks I’d have completed in 4. ME and IR next!! Can’t wait
Hour Builder, give me a shout if you have any questions about the course, oh and indeed you did see Alan Sugar there on Friday, he‘s often there……I’m still trying to think of something cheesy to say

Hello all,
Just reading your posts and attempting to read between lines. I'm very interested in doing my IR at SFC on the DA42. Currently a MEP and CPL holder. Is Southend the aerodreome they use normally for ILS and NDB approach prctice? I am slightly worried that the airfield itself has only a VOR. (Only is the wrong word, as that's excellent, but you know what I mean.) I'm also looking at Bournemouth which has the attraction of NDB and ILS, and have spent last month scratching my head as to where to go. The quote of 8-10 weeks to do IR at SFC is the longest out of anybody. Oversubscribed?? Are most IR students happy? Where does test take place. Presumably A/C has be positionned. IMMENSELY GRATEFUL for answers.

southend has an ILS too.

only at one end though.

The only reservation about Stapleford (which is laid back and most of the staff are tip top) is that the IR 170A is a doddle compared to the 03 departure at Cranfield.

Caught me out first time.

NB - Cranfield is where you will do the IR exam. Departure from 03 is considerably more work than departure from other end.

Or maybe it was just me.

The course isnt oversubscribed, they take on as much as they can handle, but the DA42 sim is busy!

I was extremely happy with my training at Stapleford, the instructors are excellent. You'll see 8-10 weeks quoted as you will only get one detail per day. This allows you to absorb more - some days if I had done two I think i'd have exploded. It works in the long run though, I would have had a first time pass except for a silly mistake I made on my NDB hold, which I redid with no problems.

Give the school a call and ask for Lisa, she's very helpful (yes I know your reading this ) and i'm sure she'll answer anything you have, or even give you a tour around if you ask nicely.

I'm strongly considering stapleford to do back 2 back modular from zero ppl - fATPL, does anyone know what is the usual timespan it takes to complete such a course, I know they can get very busy.

Newbie wants clarification

Kangy said, "by advising me to do the CPL before the IR I would in fact save a few more hundred pounds.... "

Please clarify how this saves you money. I am just starting out with my PPL and find this information useful for future planning.
