About to begin a new voyage/life chapter

Afternoon all,

well, currently I am sitting at my work desk, looking out amongst a sea of bored faces, I have a pretty good job (Working for Sony Electronics as Marketing manager for TV's) but hell I can not do this for the next 20-30 yrs, it will send me to an early wooden box!

13 years ago at the tender age of 17 I past my FAA PPL in Florida, but unfortunately this has lapsed, buying property etc takes a lot of money!

Anyway, I now find myself being more financially able to afford the long and expensive route back into Professional aviation, using the equity from my property.

Flying has always ben my first love, I flew model aircraft when I was young, joined the Air Cadets and at college studied Aeronautical Engineering, then business management, and somehow fell into a Job at Sony, and stayed here for the last 10 years.

Over the last year I have looked again into moving cross industry and cross profession, and last Friday I took a trip down to Stapleford Flight Centre to have a look around, I was very impressed, and Lisa Green the student advisor spent all the time I needed and answered all of my questions, sadly the head of training was not around, as I wanted to see if I could use my PPL or at least part of it (perhaps the hours?)

And this Wednesday I am going down to Gatwick for my Class 1 Medical (310 quid – )

Then to embark on the fATPL course (99% sure it will be Stapleford!) for 12-18 months

Anyway, I just wondered if there were any other 30ish people out there about to embark on there Professional Aviation courses. There is certainly a lot of nerves that I have about undergoing such an expensive and time consuming change of career at a late ish stage of life (luckily (or un-luckily if you like) I do not have a wife or children to entertain…)

Basically looking for any words of encouragement, something I might have missed to consider, stress’s and strains, these forums have proved a great place to dig for information, but if you look to hard there seems to be a lot of people competing for few jobs (or so it would seem from some threads I have read!)

I also appreciate it is down to the individual for employment prospects (and I do know a few people in the industry….) so not looking to get flamed on this

Anyway, thought I would have a post, say hello and just write down my thoughts!

Oh and what is going on with the weather? It’s mid June for Pete’s sake! (and pouring with rain here!)

Cheers
