Yourself, & others, are correct about the function of this belt.

Still worth a check though.

Pre-flighting a PA28 tends to vary according to the school checklist, I try to go beyond this and check everything I see! I am up there flying this machine and ultimately my life depends on what I have or have not checked/seen.
