Coventry Flying

As I'll be working up in Brum for the next year or so, I'm looking to join one of the flying clubs at Coventry airfield (Or anywhere near Aston). Any comments good or bad would be appreciated...

Check your PMs, about to send details...

AWA is the 2nd cheapest and probably the best value, imho naturally. Where else can you hire a 210hp C172 for less money that a Warrior?

Wellesbourne gets a lot of business from Birmingham too so dont rule it out. Try here . Robin HR200s are a bit different from your average spam can.

I was with AWA too, when I was in Warwickshire about 10 years ago. A lovely & friendly group at the time.

After visiting AFT in January, they are in the main GA building (old terminal), turn right as you enter from the car park.

Being a member of the Armstrong Whitworth Association Flying Club, has a bit of a romantic ring to it.

Yeah, you could do a lot worse than go for AWA...
I hear the social secretary's a bit odd though. :uhoh:

why not try Almat Flying Club, www.almatflyingclub.co.uk I have been a member for about a year now and have found everybody very friendly,
good aircraft availability, 2x c172, pa28 140, c150's etc.

Almat - shame the C150s are knackered though. Not sure about the rest of the fleet.

I learnt at CAC and was more than happy with them although its quite some time ago. Only downside was that I had at least a dozen different instructors for my PPL course.

Agree with Blue Robin comments. Robin HR 200 is a nice docile craft with good handling qualities and is worth a try if you want to learn on something just a little bit different with stick rather than yoke.

topcat450 24th June 2003 21:02

Oi....nothing wrong with Almats 150s...Everyone I used had 2 VORs (1 with G/S)...ADF...2 Comms...and did what they were supposed to. :)

I never had an a/c go tech in 50 odd hours there - they might not look the most pristine examples but most flying school hacks don't...but they more than did the job.
