Airfields in Pennsylvania

Hi All,
Sometime next year I will be visiting friends in Gwynedd county Pennsylvania. (by the way, that's Gwynedd as in "Gwyneth" 'scuse my Welsh) And I was wondering if any of you know any good airfields in the area, offering aircraft hire, as I would like to do some "exploring" from the vantage point of a cockpit.

If I could have some details of good airfields in the region, that would be a great help

My maps don't show a "Gwynedd County" in Pennsylvania. There are a number of places with Gwynedd in their name, but they seem to be in Montgomery (or Bucks) County - upscale suburbs of Phily. Willow Grove Naval Air Station would be the largeest airport, though winding down, IIRC. There are numerous small fields within 20 miles.

The Philadelphia folks must have had something about Wales at one time. One of the suburbs is Bala Cynwyd, and "Cynwyd" was the name of its telephone exchange. This gave certain problems back in the ages when operators were needed to put through all long-distance calls. "How do you spell Cynwyd?"

Not sure if it's in the area you mentioned, but if you're near Lock Haven that is the home of The William T Piper Memorial Airport.

Lock Haven was where Mr Piper first built his aircraft and is now also home to the Piper Aviation Museum.

If you're lucky you'll be in the area when Sentimental Journey is happening.

Did some aviating a couple of years ago from Brandywine Airport, West Chester, Philadelphia. Staff really friendly and helpful, usual types available for rent. Not sure if Gwynedd County is anywhere near but have a look at Brandywine

I flew from New Garden near West Kennet a couple of years ago. Very interesting in strong winds.

If you visit Brandywine Airport there is also an excellent helicopter museum there...

We rented a C172 from Princeton across the state border in NJ.
