Floatplane training in Canada

Can anyone recommend a JAR approved floatplane training centre in Canada, preferably around Alberta? I think I remember reading an article in one of the mags last year but can't remember where. Thought about Jack Brown's but the Mrs is adamant we've got to go to Canada....

Any help appreciated, thanks...

Ved,
There was a thread here last week so a search is recommended; you could try Canadian seaplane pilots assn., or www, cooperair .com, and look for links.

I started a thread on this - look under private flying either last week or the week before.....:D

I don't think there are many places in AB itself, but if you go across to BC you'll find a few. This one had an article in one of the mags about a year ago I think.
Your Mrs has good taste - Canada is beautiful, a great country. :)

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of previous threads - DQ's was particularly useful esp the Canadian Seaplane link. We're going to be spending some time in Edmonton and the place that seems to fit the floatplane training bill in that area is Cooking Lake Aviation (CAD250=GBP100/hr C180 with floats Dual).

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of this outfit, or if anyone has successfully converted Canadian floatplane training into a JAA license rating. Also hopefully the Canadian authorites aren't as bureacratic concerning Visas a la US these days....Thanks for all your help....

Follow-Up!

So many times on prune you'll hear a good question with good answers and then never hear a follow-up, so I thought I'd remedy it with this post....

Thanks for all the advice guys! Just got back from a two week trip to Canada, where I did the float rating, eventually choosing Air-Hart in Kelowna. Had an awesome time and can't recommend these guys enough for anyone who hasn't yet chosen their summer vacation or stumbles across this post in a search.

Took 6hrs to get the rating in the beautiful lake-spotted Okanagan valley, then Air-Hart are one of the few operators I found that allows solo rental, so this is a beach Mrs V spotted from the air where we decided to picnic. Anyone who's interested in doing the same, feel free to PM me about Air-Hart or getting the Canadian rating onto a JAR license.

Great! Glad to hear that it worked out for you.

It looks like you trained on the 180(?). More expensive than the 172XP, but hey, you only live once! It's wonderful that they agree to rent it out solo.

I hope that you'll visit Canada again soon.:D
