Fuel Prices

I had an interesting conversation with an Avgas sales man yesterday. Apparently any airfield even the small ones buying avgas from one of the UK’s major oil companies should not be paying more than 55p + vat per litre.

Apparently the oil companies believe that 15p per litre should be the maximum mark up. Most Airfields are charging at least 80p + VAT some a lot more.

Let use this form to find out the nearest and cheapest fuel in the UK

To kick off:

Coventry 80p + Vat 94p a litre

Keef 13th August 2002 22:25

Is that 55p + VAT plus fuel tax?

The fuel tax is 27.34 pence a litre. The inference is that Avgas is 27.66p a litre before taxes, which does seem a tad low? Or is it?

Southend (EGMC) price varies monthly but was 81p plus VAT last month IIRC.

EGJA 52p per litre- no vat!

Biggin - 78.5p + VAT. About the only thing that is cheap about Biggin Hill... But as a lazy sucker I'm based there.

Keef - I think that duty is applied at the refinery gate so your calculations are correct.

Given that AVTUR is about 35p per litre plus VAT (no duty), this would figure. Roll on turbo diesel conversions at a sensible price.

EGBK 99.3p per litre

Scottsdale, Arizona, $1.91 per GALLON ! (or 30p / l)

Rip off Britain strikes again :D

Elstree 78p+ VAT:mad:

Chilli Monster 14th August 2002 12:19

Filton 74p + VAT (87p)

Nottingham 82p + VAT (96p)

Interesting to see how much it costs. I fill up from Coventry before I go anywhere, and have never been so far that I've needed to fill up before coming back. I don't even get to see how much Coventry charges because it goes on the flying group account.

At the Popham fly in I got a flight with a couple of PPRuNers who were 'popping to Sandown to refuel'. I guess if there's a big difference it's worth the trip (plus it was a gorgeous day, and I'd never been to IOW before ;) )

Keef 14th August 2002 19:16

Time was, with tanks below tabs, it was cheaper to fly to Ostend, refuel, and fly back than to fuel at Southend (assuming your own aeroplane, of course).

Sadly no longer so.

+ VAT? Bollocks!

Why does anyone feel that it's useful to quote a price as xxx+ VAT as if we don't have to pay it or something? How much does it f**cking well cost? Don't give me that + VAT !!!!!, I don't have a calculator handy!
(Not having a go at anyone, just a personal bee in the bonnet :D .)

Avgas purchased 27 July, per litre, including VAT:

Old Sarum @ 92p serve yourself
Shobdon @ 97.5p fueller
Goodwood @ 99p fueller

Hmmmm

Don't forget that it's not just the price per litre and VAT, there is also delivery cost to factor in.

I charge 80p per litre including VAT to my club members and 90p per litre including VAT to everyone else. Don't rush though - MoD landing charges will quickly negate any fuel cost savings. Sorry!

Keef 14th August 2002 20:52

Hey, DB6, why so angry?

Those of us who regularly fly abroad fill in the little chitty on the delivery note and get our fuel VAT free, so the + VAT information is relevant - to us, at least.

A and C 15th August 2002 09:44

BEagle do you charge other service flying clubs 80 or 90p/ltr ?.

DB6 16th August 2002 20:06

Sherburn 88p/litre. Bollocks to VAT. Free landing if fuel purchased.
Keef, you're a lucky git then :D .

BEagle 16th August 2002 20:16

A and C - for RAF FCA members, 80p. Everyone else, 90p.

That is, providing they've checked in advance that we've some for sale to them, of course! And it's sold strictly caveat emptor, cash or cheque but no credit!!

matspart3 16th August 2002 20:28

Gloucester 95p inc. VAT, Refueller if required or self-service for account/key holders...and a discount on the landing fee when you buy 50 ltrs or more

long final 16th August 2002 20:50

Filled up at Le Touquet this week, paid (give or take a cent or two for convertion) 84p INC. Thought it was suppost to be cheap there

It is cheaper than the UK if you don't claim the duty. Hence, 78p +VAT is cheaper :D
