Importing N-reg
What are the cost blocks for a N-reg aircraft to buy in the US and get it to Europe?
+ pre-buy cost + purchase price + ferry pilot + ferry cost + customs fees (percentage ?) + EU VAT (which rate?) + initial paper works + registration fee Anything missing? |
Export CofA?
|
I think an Export CofA would only be necessary if you're changing registers, which it sounds like you're not. If that's the case, and you're not a US citizen, you may also want to factor into the calculation the costs for setting up and maintaining registration in a US trust.
Other than that, the only other additional costs that spring to mind are: - Ferry flight insurance - FCC radio station license & RT operator permit (negligible cost, IIRC) - Depending on the type, ferry tanks and potentially other pre-ferry preparations (GPS database subscriptions?). - It may also be worth considering getting an annual done in the US before bringing it over. Also any installation changes that you want or need (8.33kHz radios? WAAS GPS?) will probably be significantly cheaper in the US than Europe. |
One other thing to keep in mind is that the cost of your insurance will go up by 12% when you re-register to a G. The reason for this is the insurance tax rate is determined by the country of registration. There is no insurance tax on N regs but most UK GA aircraft pay 12% Insurance Premium Tax.

UK GA aircraft pay 12% Insurance Premium Tax. |
Only available if you are resident on the IOM for light aircraft. Also ........
|
So register it to an M-reg Company.

No contest between ease of ownership on N reg v M reg.

What license do you use to fly M reg? Can you get an IoM PPL? (Or anything else)
|
Unless you're in the IOM 'system', I suspect it's going to be much easier to simply go N reg...
A standard SEP ferry (C172 for example), trans-atlantic, is generally in the $8-10K range (all in) - if that helps. |
