"exercises scheduled"
 

Afternoon folks.

Looking to take a friend flying Friday, he wants to see a "big" airport and I suggested Southend as it is local, easy to get to and GA friendly and we can see an easy jet.

On Skydemon there is a rather large area south east of Chelmsford showing exercises scheduled from SFC+... But I can't seem to find any further information anywhere - not on skydemon or the internet generally.

I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction, Skydemon has made it look as though this has been turned into a danger area. The only details I can find though are as mentioned above, until 01/11/16 exercises will take place sfc to no upper limit.

I'm assuming this makes this a no fly zone? I would route to avoid it even if it was only advisory but is there anywhere you can get further details and would you be able to fly through this if you wanted? (Just trying to work out the rules regarding this sort of notification!)

If you mean the circle with Stow Maries airfield at its centre, then its mis-titled on the SD map. The notam text simply says Stow Maries is closed for maintenance.

Foulness is active though.

As Heston says, it just means that Stowe Maries is currently closed due to airfield maintenance issues.

Years ago on half mils, there was an area marked in roughly the place stated by the OP with a notation saying it was an 'Aerobatic Area'.
Whether it was actually used as such I've no idea but it was just advisory, not restricted or prohibited and certainly not controlled airspace.
