Please help! Lost log book!!

I hope someone can help. I flew roughly about 42 hours towards my PPL during 2003-2004. However, I needed to stop when I hit financial problems. I am tthinking of restarting my training but I seem to have lost my log book!!! is it possible the flying school would have records that far back, or will I be starting again from scratch?

Phone them and see. You only have to keep them for 5 years but everywhere I have worked archive them and they don't get chucked.

If you've kept your invoices from the flying club you can reconstruct the log book from those - the invoices are my primary backup. (One has to keep most pieces of paper for six years anyway, and when the filing cabinet gets full I usually move things to the attic rather than the bin.)

Gliding logbook, power logbook, textbooks for ground study, all in my car (my trusty beatup old Ford Escort Estate) when it was stolen from in front of my house in Headington. The car was recovered in Barton, the logbooks etc all gone, thrown in a ditch probably. Why would the thieves bother to do that?

Ever since I keep a photocopy of EVERYTHING.

I don't know how you do things on your side of the ocean, but why not contact the actual flight instructor who gave you the instruction...he would log it in his book too. He might redo it for nothing...but give him something...it is your situation not his.

I know one can reconstructa log book...I've even seen people reconstruct it with more flying time than they had in the first log book...it can be certfied by a local inspector (FAA here)
