Caernarfon website

Planning a trip to Caenarfon on Monday - assuming the weather is nice (no point in flying over the Welsh mountains in IMC if I don't have to!)

Slightly alarmed that Google declined to take me to index on the basis that it was infested with malware. See: Google Safe Browsing diagnostic page for caernarfonairport.co.uk

Does anyone have contacts there who could help? I was going to check their website for PPR info, &c.

Don't forget your Hi-VIS! :hmm:

sammypilot 26th September 2012 11:33

Had the same problem for some days now particularly if you try to go to the Wecam/Weather section.

Don't forget your Hi-VIS!
Why, are you guys blind?

If your flight involves onward flight out of Great Britain, then allow time for speaking to Special Branch. I understand that they meet each and every flight to/from abroad there.

I now avoid it because of the delays that entails. It's out of step with the random inspections everywhere else in the UK.

Thanks all. Same problem still if I go via Google - so they at least think the site is infested. However I can go direct and it occurred to me if I did so from my iPad its unlikely to get infected.

No onward flight plan, no. And thanks for th hi-viz warning!

just to note , I have yet to meet Special branch once at Caernarfon or any other UK airport. (unless they are very covert these days)and this is travelling from Ireland and returning there.

dublinpilot 27th September 2012 12:53

Hi Fionn,

That's interesting. I've been met everytime I've passed though. SB told me that it's their policy to meet every aircraft for which a GAR applies, and only don't do so if loglistically they can't make it.

In terms of other airports in the UK, it's rare but does happen on a sample basis.

Do us a favour. Don't wear any hi-viz and if challenged ask the person challenging you how they found you to tell you to wear the tabbard?

Also, if you get past that and officials on Queens Business, let us know how the wind turbines are getting on.

Do not know which direction you are coming from?

You have two options either go direct over the Welsh mountains overflying Snowdon or if your not happy taking to the clouds and letting down over the sea just track up towards WAL vor and take a left following the coast around to Anglesey and Caernarfon.

Both routes are spectacular in their own rights.

Infact go over the mountains one way and around the coast the other.

Presuming your coming from the South East route up towards WPL ndb! If things do not look good ahead turn north keep the welsh mountains on your left and head towards WAL vor passing close to Hawarden.

Thanks. To be honest if imc I will do PAR to overshoot at Valley then transit across the sea. However as this is trip is for pleasure it seems a waste to do it if the mountains are invisible!

..or your chequebook:*

I have flown that area a lot and the mountain route is really spectacular especially if you drop down to levels you would never admit too over miles of deserted landscape :E
Chances are even if the hills to the East of Snowdonia are clear you often get cloud build ups over Snowdonia but appreciate what you are saying!
There is no need to get a radar let down as over flying Caernarfon and then letting down over the sea works well but all to their own.
