Seems to me that SRA availablity is getting as rare as rocking horse sh1t these days, and half milers seem to be long gone. So much for progress.

There are loads of places that will provide a SRA - many fewer a PAR.

In the south you will get an SRA at Southampton, Bournemouth, Gatwick, Farnborough (I think, not asked recently), Manston (when the radar is working) to name a few. The only one I can think that did, that doesnt is Dunsfold, and of the same era Manston when under the control of the RAF it provided a PAR - I remember flying a PAR at Manston before they closed.

I've never had a half-miler SRA, come to think of it, even where the airfield was supposed to offer it (eg Gloucester). Is it a major pain for controllers, or even a special qualification which they may not have?

I see that Leeds Bradford have just notamed permanent withdrawal of their two mile SRAs. I think Gloucester is one of the few (possibly the only?) one still offering a half miler.
I think the limitation on half milers is more to do with the "modern" equipment than controller qualification.

I think its something to do with the sweep rate of the radar head.

Amendment to CAA Prosecution List

At my request, the CAA have published release 2 of their list of prosecutions. It amends details in my own personal case (CAA-v-Jackson) to remove unfounded, and potentially libelous, allegations with respect to the Skills Test.

This may explain, to some of the naysayers, why I was awarded a conditional discharge by the court.
