LOM PRAHA engine ?

Does anyone have experience with the LOM PAHA engines?

Jan Olieslagers 21st August 2012 01:09

Not that I would have an answer, but could it be you actually meant "LOM PRAHA" ?

XLC 21st August 2012 01:46

yes Jan, indeed. Thank you for the observation, I edited the title in the meanwhile.

Ultranomad 21st August 2012 08:14

XLC, I have not had much personal experience, but my aircraft is parked at the hangar of a maintenance facility specialising in overhaul of all Czech engines, and I can ask the owner. What engine model are you interested in and what would you like to know?

XLC 21st August 2012 14:43

Thank you.

In general how are those engines running? Typical issues, weaknesses, ... .
Am curious about the M 332C or maybe also the M 332 AK.

Ultranomad 22nd August 2012 12:21

XLC, I had a conversation as promised, and was told that M332 has no inherent problems one should be wary of, except the usual precautions applicable to all supercharged engines. In terms of general features, one should be aware of its substantially different effect on weight and balance, as it is narrower and longer than Lycomings/Continentals. M332 is a low-compression engine and is approved for mogas. The M332C modification has an automatic mixture adjustment. TBO is 2000 hours. There are relatively few shops that would overhaul them, but both LOM Praha itself and W Motor Service (the shop where I am based) are alive and well and have no intention of discontinuing their services.

Ultranomad, Thank you for the valuable info. Safe flights to you.

Lom engines

I am think of buying a aircraft with a MK337AK and am worried about support availability in the US. Is there service in the states or does one have to rely on oversea support? Does factory still manufacture these engines or just parts and overhauls?
Any info would be appreciated.
Matt

Ultranomad, I have a new Walter Mikron III, which I will be installing in my homebuild project soon. Contact with the the manufacturer, Parma Technik, is unmanageably slow and unreliable and I'm after information about the engine which does not seem to be available in the installation or engine manuals. Would the facility where you're based be able to help?

Ultranomad 15th September 2013 21:14

Koblenzer, M337 is officially considered in production, but to the best of my knowledge, all demand, even for parts, is satisfied from "new old stock", the reserves being vast. The facility I am at has about a dozen assembled engines sitting on pallets, plus a stockpile of various loose parts.
No data on US service, sorry.

Whirldwind, please check your messages.

Silvaire1 16th September 2013 13:19

Matt, some years ago there was a US distributor LOM engines but I understand they closed shop. They are interesting, probably the best of the inverted types, but I would not own one in the US with the expectation of simple parts or technical support.

Last week I was in Prague and visited the large aviation museum there. A fantastic place with a lot of LOM powered aircraft among the exhibits. It made me want a Zlin!

Hi whirlwind,
I have 2 mikron 111`s, one in my Wot, the other ready to install in another project.
If I can help with any info. on the engine please let me know,
KR

Im trying to buy M337C engines from this company but it seems difficult ! Is that normal there or is it just they have to much money ?

LOM Praha is a state-owned enterprise and a major military contractor. M337 production has become a mere fringe activity, and they don't really care much about it. Spare parts have become very difficult to get as well.

beemergb 7th June 2025 08:19

Thanks for the reply ! Any other company selling anything like these engines ,I can get flat six engines but it means refitting the airframes to take such a motor .

Shadoku 7th June 2025 17:00

New Inline-6 engines? Don't exist. Your best bet may be to buy a used M337 and find someone who knows their way around them. LOM is also regularly present at AERO Friedrichshafen, so maybe try there next year.

I see you're from Germany. There's a fly-in for Czechoslovak airplanes in Roudnice nad Labem, Czechia from 27-29 June. Not too far from the German border. Last year, the general manager of LOM's piston engine department was there as well. Not sure if they are present every year, but I guess that would be a good opportunity to talk to someone in charge.

We overhaul M337, M137 and Walter Minor engines, but it takes a long time because of delays with spare parts - we literally have to hunt for them, or recondition old ones. We typically quote half a year, though it may be a bit easier if you want them for experimental/homebulit aircraft. Feel free to message me for details.

beemergb 10th June 2025 10:09

So I have two M337C engines and I need them overhauled , but if you think its pointless then I will get Chinese Flat six engines and modify the airframe . But that is a pain in the arse ! As I have a customer with a few of thees engines and hes looking for a decent service repair company to do it all .As Lompraha are state owned and dont give a #### ! If you can do these engines quickly you will have a contract with us to do them all , and it will be over a space of time 1 to 20 engines . If its to much for you just tell me and I will try something else , hear from you soon Harry
