PPL In Spain (Madrid)
 

Hi I wonder if anyone can help my son is currently trying to complete his PPL in Madrid Cuatro Vientos and has failed 5 of the 7 theory exams through lack of and bad tuition, he is using a private instructor, who now seems to want paying for the 40 odd hours up front. Told my son no way wait until you passed all the ground exams.

having a look in the forum Cuatro Vientos looks like a bit of a dump and does not get great reviews

So need help with:

• how to book exams in Madrid
• also can anybody recomend a school and or instructor around Madrid Cuatro Vientos orotherwise

BTW my son has practically no Spanish

Jack them in and move elsewhere.

Why is he doing it in spain, cost?

He is living out there for a while and has some time on his hands, also the weather is good (clear days) he jus needs to find a better school and tutor any ideas

No suggestions on that front, but from what you wrote and like you suggest.

Well, doing the PPL in Spain w/o any Spanish is going to be difficult. Try to do it in the UK in Spanish.... you get the drift.

There are a few outfits in Spain that do the JAA syllabus in English, but to my knowledge none in Madrid, AFAIK they are all somewhere in the south.

You can always complete the JAA Ground Exams in the UK under a JAA FTO.

Then complete the JAA Flight Training at a Spanish JAA FTO in Madrid

But - Actual PPL Flight Test would have to be carried out by a UK Examiner.

Doesn't have to be a UK examiner, just a JAR examiner (just checked with the CAA).

So, the best option really is home study with UK course, sit the UK tests, train in Spain, examined by Spanish examiner.

With some of the beans saved, get a decent ANR headset.

In addition to what has been said, in particular by 172driver, I suggest that he buy Trevor Thom's (or whatever is being used these days) and the PPL Confuser, then pop down to Jerez for a few days, or over a couple of weekends, and get the theory out of the way with B. Mellor at Fly in Spain. We are talking self-study here but there's nothing intrinsically difficult about PPL theory.

Then he can take a bit of a holiday and complete the flying part either with Fly in Spain (not just Cuatro Vientos, but the whole of Madrid is a dump anyway so I'm sure he'll appreciate the idea of spending time elsewhere), or if rmcb is correct, it appears that he might be able to negotiate with any other JAA examiner to do the skills test for him. I would run this through both the CAA and, if you can get hold of them, the Spanish DGAC.

Whatever he does, I would steer well clear of LECU if I were him.

If CAA allow any JAA Examiner for a Skill Test PPL get it in writing first!

As LH2 suggested, get it in writing.

I spoke with the CAA this afternoon and inclded this question in the conversation; the person I spoke to has directly contradicted the table mentioned by sloanemallorca.:(
