Goggles

Hi there,

can anyone here recommend some goggles that I can wear with my glasses? For flights in open cockpits. I found some for motorcycling, not sure whether that would work for flying as well.

Thanks!

MARK 9 PILOTS GOGGLES

You may be called biggles though!

Those don't look as if they would work over spectacles, as the OP (and me!) want. Do they?

I've got a pair of them & no they don't fit over specs

Thanks, that's a shame.

They're not an absolutely ridiculous price, either.

Sorry... I clearly didn't read the most important bit!

Type 521 Goggle

Here are some which hopefully should work but are in the US. I have read though that they are best with thin frame glasses.

I don't know if they would be suitable but have a look at diving masks/ goggles, obviously without the snorkeling/ rebreather attachments. Anything without the word aviation on the packaging will be a lot cheaper.

Edit:

These work over my glasses: LEATHER CHROME Flying Goggles motorbike bike open top | eBay I use them in a Jodel D6.

Certainly not ideal as they go over the nose and are designed to give an airtight seal, I suppose you could cut a hole in the nosepiece to evercome this.

I hope this isn't a silly question, but can you use snow ski goggles in an open cockpit?

Not a silly question, about 5 years ago I saw someone taxiing a Tigermoth wearing blue tinted ski goggles.

Well, then do add the snorkel and you're sorted. No bugs on your teeth either.

Don't forget to post a picture. :E

I bought those and they fit perfectly over my glasses:

Thanks for you advise!

The snorkel would come in useful in the event of ditching I suppose. Best get all the gear: go for flippers too.:ok:

Are goggles allowed for a JAA IR flight test?

I would have thought you would have a guaranteed pass even before you started the engine.

Communica and Lynx both do very comfortable hard shell helmets that will go over glasses. I use a Communica helmet, separate headset, and as required sunglasses, for my open cockpit flying.
