Flying at night when its cold

Right. It's New Year's Eve. It's cold. I'm at work all night. Joy. Happy New Year to you all!

To alleviate the boredom, I'm going flying at around midnight to see the fireworks. It's been a while since studying met, so am I right?

Currently the temp. on the ground is a balmy -4, with the METFORM saying -2 at 2000'. Sky is clear, supposed to say that it drops to 8k between 23-07. I reckon that all is okay, but stay clear of wet bits (cloud, other moisture).

Any thoughts?

Yep. Stay clear of the wet bits,

good advice for life in general....

How far up can some of these rockets go? Is a light single at 1,500ft safe?

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Well, we did the flight, being the last departure of 2001 and the first arrival of 2002. Flew at 2000', visibility well in excess of 30nm. Fireworks don't generally go above about 500' except at major displays, so well safe. It made for an awesome sky, from overhead Milton Keynes saw the fireworks in Northampton, Bedford, Aylesbury, Luton, and as far south as Watford (probably). A very interesting flight.

Back at work now, only 5hrs to go before some sleep!!

Happy and safe aviating to all in 2002.

Edited becoz first attempt made no sense!

And to you Courtman delighted to see your enthusiasm for the air is as strong as ever.Landed at LGW at 1900 in nobby last night one of the best nights I,ve seen for many a year full moon and crystal clear from the Pyrenees up to central England except fot the English channel which appeared to have a lot of low cloud in it for some reason though JSY and GCI appeared clear.Must have been great at midnight.Happy new year to you all.

I'm really getting soft in my old age - let the New Year in a little more gracefully in broad daylight.

30 mins local aboard the Towers Aeronca G-AKTK - blissful day.

Sounded a cool way to see in the new year
(literally, brrrrrr)
hope the heater worked ok,
yup, your plan sounded fine to me,
with LTN's facilities to cover
decreased vis' etc, as a back up too.
10 out 10 for your enthusiasm.

Happy New Year, Have a great 2002.
