Traffic Proximity Alert System
Anybody familiar/used this? Any views? One of my group would like to fit one.
"TPASĒ stands for Traffic Proximity Alert System and utilizes the latest in modern technology to fit a personal collision avoidance unit into the palm of your hand. TPAS is the affordable collision avoidance device that gives you an unparalleled level of safety in the sky. TPAS utilizes microwave frequencies to give you the distance in nautical miles to the closest aircraft within 2000' above or below you. With TPAS in your cockpit, you can fly with an added margin of safety previously only available in much more expensive devices hard-installed into your aircraft. TPAS is the only product available to accurately give you distance in a completely portable package" DOC |
DOC,
There's been some discussion in the Usenet newsgroups on this product - not all of it complimentary. As I recall there are/were two similar devices for general aviation on the market, and I think the term TPAS refers to a specific one. Anyway, follow this link for a chronological listing of posts on TPAS: http://groups.google.com/groups?q=TPAS&hl=en&scoring=d |

Many thanks for your prompt reply!! DOC |
If its another thing that is fitted temporarily to the aircraft with bits of velcro and powerd from the cigar lighter socket via yards of wire like most GPS instalations that i,v seen then god help us yet more people will be crusing around "head down" and not looking out the window.
However i hope that this is the first step to a TCAS system that will be afordable at the lower end of the market. |
