VP Props on PPL?
 

Can I fly a/c with a VP prop on my PPL?. .I've flown about 60hrs on an a/c with a VP prop as part of my CPL, but do I need to get it signed of on the PPL?. .Cheers,. .GA

I think you have 'grandfather rights', so yes you can. All JAR requires is that you have differences training, which does not necessarily mean a flight. If you have flown VP or retractables before then you are OK to continue doing so.

Differences training relates to the aircraft rating, not the licence, so it doesn't matter whether you are exercising PPL or CPL privileges.

VP prop privaleges on a SEP are forever and grandfather rights apply if you have flown them before, so no sign up required. If you fly a twin with VP props you must maintain curency, 24 months I think. In reality, an annual check out covers that, but you could go more than 2 years without flying a turbo twin so differences training and a signature is then needed to revalidate the turbo part. As there is no specific place in the log to put the signature the whole thing is a bit of a nonsense.

As it is 'difference' training, do you have to have your logbook signed by a JAA instructor? I fly Multi's / Complexes on my FAA licence, but just have a basic JAA PPL. Could I fly a Complex G reg?

If you flew the complex before 1 Jul 99 then no problem you have grandfather rights. If you have only flown it since then on a FAA licence you need a JAA instructor signature to fly one on a UK/JAA PPL.
