UK PPL Hours??

G'Day All

It would be much appreciated if someone could give be a breakdown of the minimum number of hours required to get a PPL in the UK. How much of this would be ab initio, and how much navigation?

Thanks

Minimum 45 hours, with a minimum of 25 hours dual instruction. 10 hours must be solo, with 5 being solo navigation. There is a skills test at the end of it, plus you need to pass a bunch of exams (Air Law, Navigation, Meteorology, Aircraft (Technical), Human Performance & Limitations and . .Flight Performance & Planning). Oh, and a radio test, an oral test on the aircraft type as part of the skills test, and ...um... I think that's it

Evo7, you forgot the £160 medical!!

There is no reason why you can't include the Skill Test within the 45 hours and if you are good enough, a night qualification as well.

In fact you can take the JAA PPL skill test after just 35 hours. The rules say you must have completed all "Training" i.e 25 hours dual plus 10 hours solo, the remaining 10 hours is any other flying not training.

And the books, nightschools, radio test fee, CRP-1, book to understand CRP-1, bribe for instructor to explain book explaining CRP-1, spare pair of glasses (that my class-2 tells me I must carry), club membership, charts, kneeboard, headset, another club membership, novelty "bad-attitude" mug and/or t-shirt, pilot subscription and all the other junk that seems to haemorrhage money from my bank account....

Evo,

....not forgetting little gifts of shiny metal to her who must be kept happy, and who allows you to continue with your cheap (yeah right) hobby.

I'm just looking forward to the day when I try to explain that we should get a share in a Yak-52 rather than a new car.... :)
