Flap Retraction - C152

On my fourth solo yesterday, after doing a bad weather circuit, the flaps failed to retract on the C152 I was flying. CB wasn't tripped, lever tried by myself and my instructor, in short a complete mystery. Any ideas? We snagged the a/c as unservicable and put a little note to that effect on the lever, just in case.

And yes, that was why G-BXVY was parked with the flaps down at Stapleford yesterday!

Now you tell us .....we thought you needed assistance after being hijacked.

As to your question, broken motor, broken wire, or maybe problems with the flap tracks

Fairly common problem in my experience. More than once, after teaching slow flight or something similar, I've had to drag back to the airfield with full flap stuck down! Some contact or something isn't doing what it's supposed to. Remove the appropriate (I'm not suggesting that YOU do this) little circular access panel under the wing and in there somewhere lies the problem. I think an electrical contact switch needs cleaning/replacing - but don't ask me exactly, I'm not an aircraft engineer.

Regards, GT.

Look on the bright side: at least the flaps were stuck down symmetrically. Asymmetrically broken flaps are reputed to be rather unhealthy.

p.s. Sounds like a bit of a drag to me. (Ouch).
