Bourn Butty or Kemble?
The Aeroplane has been cleared, the weather looks settled (may be a bit of fog), I have a "day-pass" and I am determined to go somewhere on Sunday.
I quite fancy doing both, but should I go to Bourn then Kemble or Vice-versa? What time will the butty's be ready? Is Lindsay cooking? Is it a free for all or do you need and invite? What time are the Kemble arrivals expected? Questions questions, someone should ask Captain PPRuNe to set up a separate forum ;) |
Very good questions New Bloke. I am thinking of doing both but can't decide which first. Present plan is to stop at Bourn en route to Kemble from Elstree, as soon as the fog clears (yeah, right). I was hoping to swank it at Kemble in the freshly painted Dog but have been relegated to a Pup because someone has nabbed the Dog to go to Bourn in. Bring your Pup too and we can block him in at the parking space

Is that G-TSKY or the 100 hp dog? I don't mean dog affectionatly.
Mine is a Fuji, I havn't flown a Pup for a couple of years |
Sorry, thought you were a pup-ista. I agree that the 100 hp variant is indeed a bit of a dog, with fleas. Sweet one-up, otherwise forget it. The Dog I was referring to, however, is Bulldog G-BPCL, which looks very fine in Hong Kong colours with Chinese writing on it, and can actually out-climb the curvature of the Earth, unlike its lesser cousin. G-TSKY is stuck down at Shoreham so I shall be in G-IPUP, another Pup 150, which looks more scruffy but goes a bit faster.

Bourn fly-in???? Is there anything on the web about it? I wouldn't mind trying to fit them both in.
|
Yeah Tiny,
You have to go over the original thread about the fly-in, somewhere on there someone mentions the Bourn Bacon Butty Fly-in. Sorry that is a bit less than helpful. FNG, I used to love GTSKY, before I moved away I would fly it as much as I could, great aeroplane. Agree with you comments about Skysport, a very good operation, if we only knew where in the south-east he means, whoops, wrong thread.... |
Thanks New Bloke
Found it, I can spend the next hour planning the routes. Wx looks O.K. so far fingers crossed. |
After all the missed previous attempts, Kemble is definitely my priority.
I will consider Bourn, probably on the way back. As long as the vis is okay in the morning expect Pup 150 GAXNS and yellow vest at 11.00 hrs. B |
It's Bourn only for me, I'm afraid. I did have a look at the map but I'm based 70 miles n east of Bourn and Kemble looks an awful long way on a winters day in a not very comfy single seater!
Hoping to arrive as a 2-ship (similar type homebuilds) and have arranged to meet a young chap with a Pup (out of N Weald)who is interested in the idea of building. Stik |
I'm about 40 mins from Bourn so I think I will aim to get there about 10:30/11ish, have a quick Bacon Butty, look at SnR's homebuilt and try to leave Bourn about 12:30 ish. That should get me at Kemble by 1:30ish, I will have to leave Kemble about 3ish to get back to Redhill by Nightfall.
Sounds a goer. |
I'm planning to do both but with official night at about 1610 I'll do Bourn first arriving at 11.30 but to get back in time will have to leave Bourn by 12.30 for Kemble.
What are the majority arrival times for Bourn/Kemble? Hope the world famous butties are on the go by then. How about posting a list of regs for recognition or shall we all wear bowler hats and jockstraps ;-) see ya there. |

I wish I could come along with you lot. I'm stuck here in rainy Luxembourg, so that's that.
Say hello to Lindsay; pat his dog Pickles; Ask Lindsay if you can have a look at his wonderful clipped-wing J3 Cub in the Hangar; Smell the milk BEFORE you pour it in your coffee. Sniff. |
'KZ
and hopefully Lovejoy in 'WZ |
Tricky who's Lindsay with the clipped wing Cub?
|
Most of the participants from another Forum's fly-in to Bourn seem to give an ETA around 11:00. Strictly the bacon butties etc are intended for them so quantities might be a problem. I'll drop a line to the organisers and see if they can accommodate more... I make it 6 PPRuNe aircraft so far...
|
Lindsay is the aerodrome operator and CFI at Bourn.
|
Cahliban, was he the guy who did the "Into Aerobatics" video in a Bourn based Aerobat?
|
I doubt if Lindsay would do aerobatics unless he has developed a way of keeping a cup of tea upright while doing it :)

Anyone got the link to the Butty page? Did a search under "bourn" and "flyer" but only got (a) last year's page and (b) 1851 Berkshire Census Results. The Internet, doncha love it?
PS: New Bloke: Seem to recall we had a thread about just that some time ago. Don't recall any comments on keeping the bacon from flying out of your butty whilst aerobatting, though. Perhaps OK if you don't butter the bread? J Farley please advise. [This message has been edited by FNG (edited 12 January 2001).] |
