PPLs carrying passengers

I qualified for my CAA PPL in Florida last year. Having joined a local club on my return, and doing some hours with a QFI there, I have been signed off for solo. My question is: what are the restrictions on taking passengers up with me? I heard you had to solo within 90 days...does solo include 'with a passenger who is not QFI'?

Legally speaking, you need 3 take-offs and landings within the last 90 days as sole-manipulator of the controls. It doesn't matter if the QFI is there, as long as you're doing the flying.

Of course, what your club may require of you is up to them.

Agree with Bookworm. You also obviously need a valid Certificate of Experience / Test to qualify you to act as P1 on Single Engined Land Planes (SELP). And a medical. Worthwhile remembering that if you fail to meet the 90 day rule you can revalidate it not only by doing the necessary solo landings, but the CAA has also agreed that you may be accompanied by another PPL as long as you are sole manipulator of the controls - eminently sensible for safety reasons if you are well out of currency.

The 3 take-offs and landings in 90 days is only required to carry passengers. If you are uncurrent and want to go for a jolly by yourself then go for it.(helps to do those 3 circuits thou just in case you get a short notice request for a ride by friends etc.)

Of course this really works well when you are the aircraft owner. If you're hiring the a/c trough a club or school they may have their own requirements in excess of CAA's rules.
