Beagler, You can take your dog abroad. You need him/her chiped at the vets. The chip contains any jabs they have had. Get the rabies jab which isn't pleasant for your dog and apply for a pet passport they last for 2 years I think haven't done it yet mines still a puppy. :0)

I note that almost everyone is in favour of flying their children around and I've done it myself too. I'd just like to inject a sober observation though.

About ten or so years ago a Jodel flying across the Irish Sea suffered an engine failure of some sort and had to ditch. The adults in the front seats got out but the children strapped in the back didn't. The pilot dived down to try and get them out but he never came up again.

Flying is a very safe form of transport and the risks are low. What you do have to consider is your procedures if something does go wrong. If you put your kids in the back then have a plan of action in mind beforehand - don't leave it until the engine goes quiet..

My eldest, now 13, has been flying since age 4, my youngest, now 7, since a few months old. My 18 month old Pointer/Greyhound X has been flying for about six months.

Both kids can fly P2 straight and level, turn and climb and descend and do turns, with me helping the little one on the rudder. The hound is still learning.........
He usually falls asleep anyway!!

Only prob was IMC once when youngest heeve-hoed into my wifes waterproof jacket... -we dived into Wellesbourne to clean up -guess he just lost visual reference.

The challenge is to get them asleep and land without waking 'em up!!

I go with the hour max, nothing to do with safety, but child boredom limits....

Other parent pilots do agree, however, that the stress levels subconsciously increase when flying the family around........
