EuroFPL help- flight plan addressing?
 

I've just had a go at using EuroFPL, seems like a great tool for filing IFR flight plans. However I wonder if someone who's used it for filing IFR before could answer a question about flight plan addressing:

When I get to the page in the 'Filing Manager' when it asks one to confirm filing a flight plan and there is a section on the page entitled 'addition addresses' does this have to be filled in with all the airfields/FIRs etc or can it be left blank?

if you file an IFR FPL it only gets transmitted to CFMU, it is distributed to all interested parties automatically about 4 hours prior to ETD. the additional addresses are to enable you to transmit the FPL to any other interested parties e.g. company.
Beware that all IFR FPL's need to be ACK'd by Brussels, if the FPL is REJ it is not transmitted anywhere.

Having just read the OP's question again I see he was talking about IFR flight plans.

As welkyboy says, there is normally nothing to do. It does it all for you. The FP gets sent to two Eurocontrol addresses and they are always the same.

The additional addressing is used mostly with flight plans which have a VFR component, either formally as in Y or Z flight plans in which case EuroFPL automatically addresses the dest or dep airport, but does not address the FIR (not sure that's needed but it might be), or informally as in a farm strip I-plan departure where one may be asking a nearby big airport (CAS owner) for the IFR clearance (and then you have to address that airport manually because EuroFPL has no way of knowing that kind of stuff).

Yep I thought so, I just hadn't used EuroFPL before and wasn't sure what the box was for.

I asked the website support and they said for civil IFR flight plans nothing was usually needed and for VFR any FIRs that one might overfly but not land or take off in.

IFR Flight plans nothing is required if you stay within Europe.

FIR's for departure and destination are automatically added to any VFR flight plans.

But if you fly across any countries and do not land, then you need to add these FIR's. Skydemon is a great application that does lots of VFR flight planning and starting Jan 1 it will allow filing internally, using EuroFPL partner services.

I use the additional addressing feature of EuroFPL when flying in SE Asia, where EuroFPL doesn't yet provide fully automatic addressing. I also use it to send a copy of the flight plan to handlers.

And absolutely, for vfr to/from ZZZZ airports, you need to identify a nearby ICAO airport and manually address that airport (ICAO code + ZTZX, ICAO code + ZPZX, and FIR code + ZQZX) so your flight plan goes where it needs to go.
