Average time for PPL issue?

I was just wondering how long it takes for the licence to arrive through the letter box from the date of sending it to the CAA.

Try a camp-bed under the letterbox RC.......it helped me. :)

Agreed. Just what is the lateral dimension of a portion of narrow cord?

New Bloke 12th March 2001 22:55

I think you can still pop to the belgrano and pick it up in one day.

I did just that (well then it was Kingsway in London) and took my Dad up that day.

Rusty,

It depends on all sorts of things like weather and time of year. If you finish in mid-summer with some good weather, it could take 5-6 weeks. I finished my PPL(A) in September, they had a back-log, and it took about a month. My PPL(H), in June, took a little less. In the winter it can be quicker. But sometimes delays are inexplicable, and sometimes quick issue is equally so. It's a lottery, like many other things in aviation. You either learn patience or camp out at the Belgrano. :)

Thanks Whirly,

Wot do you reckon for probably crap weather and early april time?

Anyone got a contact number at the Belgrano, i imagine its the licence department.

Sent my application off in lateish April. Licence issue took just over a week. First PPL sortie the day the licence arrived at the beginning of May.

Good luck with the rest of the stuff

Flyswift 14th March 2001 01:53

I must be one of the lucky ones also.....mine took 8 days from the day I sent it, to the day it returned.

:)

FCL managed to lose my CPL exam results for 3 weeks one time , the next time i had a change of licence they lossed my logbook but sent me another guys IMC rating and logbook insted !
I called the owner of the logbook and found that he had been waiting 4 weeks for it ,so despite the protests of FCL i sent it to him as i did not trust them to cock it up once more.

FCL has some very hard working people at the coleface who try to get the job done with inadiquate resorces but in my view the management should be introduced to the harsh realitys of the life on the outside of aviation house.

A&C's posting reminds me of my own experience.

PPL initial issue application submitted on 7 July and great jubilation when the longed for brown wallet arrived on 27 August. (Over seven weeks later). Sadly, although they managed to put my FRTOL in the wallet, the PPL itself belonged to somebody else... tears before bedtime that day!

FCL are being lightning quick (by their standards) at the moment - my Night Rating came through in six working days!
