What are your intentions?
On a recent trip to some US flying schools...I heard the following from an instructor about language/ understanding difficulties they have with foreign students:
On transitting the Dallas Fort Worth zone oneday, DFW centre asked a PPL student to confirm his intentions before crossing. The student replied by saying, "Well I am visiting your country and I hope to become a pilot" My god there's hope for us all!!!!! C.N. Also |
There is a small collection of this sort of story/joke on my website.

A few years ago, I was taking a Mooney (aircraft not religious cult follower) to College Station, central Texas - the home airport for Texas A&M.
I joined left hand downwind and the controller said, "Mooney34X-ray, runway 10, you're cleared for the option!" OPTION? I'd never heard this before, downwind in a Mooney doesn't take too long but by the time I'd actually asked for clarification and deciphered all permutations I was almost in New Mexico!! sNr |
Cleared for the option ie full-stop, low approach, touch 'n' go etc
|
I really really really did hear this, actually, I spoke to the bloke concerned afterwards, well, truthfully, I know someone who heard this.
In Florida last February/March. Datona App "November 1234 we have some parachuting going on at Flaggler, turn to the East." November 1234 "Is that MY East or YOUR East" It really happened |
Ham - it also included run and break, too!
A T28 (Talon?) from the Texas ANG did just that as I was putting the aeroplane to bed! sNr |
