Formation Training
Any body know where I can get some formation training?
I do not have a Yak so I can't join the weekends at North Weald. |
Believe Compton Abbas may be an option. Check www.aerobatics.co.uk
As for Norhh Weald, I was under the impression that you didn't have to bring your own Yak, but may be wrong on this. Might be worth a call to Alan at the Squadron to check on this: 01992 524510. PS: overheard in an Essex flying club last year (true) Yak Driver 1: "You dahn any formation then?" Yak Driver 2: "Nahh" Yak Driver 1: "Orright then, you lead and I'll fly up behind yer" Let's hope they were heading for North Weald to join the course! |
I think that North Weald is keen to include a flight of Chipmunks in the Formation School -but maybe this does not help you either...
The person to contact at North Weald is Anthony Hutton, who runs the Formation School. Alan Couchman at the Squadron will have Anthony's contact details. As far as I know, the Compton Abbas formation weekends are conducted in Yak 52's and Yak 50's, so that may also not help you too much. Try contacting [email protected] who is instrumental I think in the Compton formation stuff. |
I believe Thruxton do a formation session about once a fortnight.

DEFINATELY try it. Its great sport and there's nothing like feeling the wheels grease the runway after you've flown the whole circuit looking at/seeing nothing but the lead A/C from 25 feet.
You can learn at Cambridge Aero Club - start tomorrow. |
Thanks for the suggestions chaps. Sounds like a good way to work up a sweat on cold winter days.

How about Jet formation flying in Jet Provosts. Costs £350 per hour. Aslo Jet aerobatics - £350 per hour.
