QXC Validity
 

A student pilot friend of mine has just been told that he will have to do his qualifying cross country again as more than 9 months have passed since he first did it,this was the first he had heard about there being a limit and so is understandably peeved.Having just looked at the JAA fcl web site,there is no mention of a time limit on the qxc,so I would be grateful if anyone could help out here with some facts as he doesnt really want to go through all that again if he can help it.If there is indeed no limit it wont be the first time that he has had to shell out a couple of hundred quid through his school not knowing what the hell is going on!
Any help would be most appreciated.

NO! Assuming that your friend has been taking the JAR-FCL route, the old '9 month rule' does not apply. Make sure that your friend's school is using the correct form (FCL-JAR02) and NOT the old FCL 102. Instruction 2 on page 4 of the old FCL 102 describes the old '9 month rule'; the instructions for JAR-FCL PPL applicants are clearly stated on page 3 of the FCL-JAR02 application form and contain no such restriction.
Which so-called school is still giving student pilots such poor information?

cheers.I would urge ANY student pilots to check for themselves the regulations as many instructors (fine pilots though they may be) dont seem to be fully up to speed with current legislation(one VERY experienced and respected examiner also,who I would trust with my life in a plane,but not when it comes to paperwork!).

"Going through all that again"?

OK, I don't know how far his training has progressed, or how his finances stand, or how urgently he needs/wants his PPL, but there's a lot to be said for doing it again anyway.

The first time I did the equivalent of the QXC after qualifying was a good 20 hours after the skills test, and was still learning like mad....

It'll only make him a much better pilot, and more ready for the skills test.
