Hi
I live in Tenerife and a few years ago i went to visit a flying school in the island. Itīs called aerotec and site is AEROTEC Escuela de Pilotos This is located at Tenerife North airport, in Los Rodeos. Itīs the only flying school on the island! |
I know the feeling 'honda cbx', and my experience won't really help I'm afraid.
Three years ago after many emails and phone calls, I eventually managed to make arrangements with the school/club at Tenerife North airport (Real Aeroclub de Tenerife) and was told by the ops person by email to call at the security gate and they'd get me escorted to the club. Well, the gate security were about as obtuse as they could possibly be, and even production of my valid license, passport and logbook wouldn't encourage them to be anything other than downright rude. They refused to call the club and appeared to view me and my Mrs with just utter contempt  Tried to phone the club on my mobile but no one was answering so just put it down as a bad job. And to cap it all, the hire car got towed away from the 30minute waiting area 15 mins after we arrived, even though there were quite a few other cars (non hire) that were there when we arrived, and had a blind eye turned by the miserable old git in the tow truck. Cost us something like 70 euro to get it back. So, all in all a bad experience, and I'd not easily recommend you spend any of your valuable holiday in the vain attempt of getting a flight. :ugh: The impression is that Tenerife North Airport is for the Spaniards only, and they don't like 'johnny foreigner' there  |
I spoke to the club in the North a couple of years ago whilst on holiday, I spoke to an English guy on the phone who seemed very pleasant and offered me a PA28 dual for what I seem to remember was a reasonable rate, in the end I ran out of time due to hangovers and other distractions and didnt get chance to fly
The number I have for then is 922638120, this will need the Tenerife code adding if calling from UK |
Thanks chaps, a bit of a mixed bag then! i shall contact them and see if i get anywhere with the number provided. And if i drive up there i shall leave my missus in the car, ya never know!!

Does anyone have any up to date info on aircraft hire in Tenerife?
We have booked to go for a week 8th April till 15th and would like to fly on one day. North or south airport not fussed and not fussed about a 172 or PA-28. Anyone had any recent experience over there? Regards Tom |
Yes, was there Friday and the sun was great!! Best wishes in your quest!

South airport you have no hope. The north airport as a flying club called Real Aeroclub de Tenerife (as mentioned above). Fairly acceptable price of around 230/hr with instructor, can't remember if that was C172 or PA28 price. But don't forget the 50 landing fees, but it's dirt cheap considering it's an international airport.
There's also AeroTec, but this is a commercial flight school rather than a club. |
I think Los Rodeos is mainly the non passenger airport, cargo and the like. whereas Rena Sofia is virtually all holiday traffic.
