Keep up momentum Winnie, I'm doing the rest of my ground exams before taking my skills test. The Solo Nav flights were some of the best experiences in my life. Enjoy your training. :ok:

dan_vector 3rd January 2011 11:51

Keep at it!

I'm currently about half way through my PPL. Currently 24hrs logged and well into the Nav. Hopefully some nav solos soon! for the record I solo'd at 12hrs (air law exam prevented me from doing it sooner!) only Nav and Met theroy exams to do as well. I'm finding the forced landings due to simulated engine failure at 2-3000 ft really exciting!
Good luck!!

fader1 3rd January 2011 18:26

Congrats!

Well done, and may there be many more enjoyable lessons! I'm at the solo XC stage at the moment but I've had to put it on hold for various reasons. Tell you what - I wish I'd made a diary of each experience!

13th lesson

Jan 30th 2011.

Did some circuits with tony then did 3 solo circuits but the weather closed in so had to land. i could have been up there all day if i could..

not been up since ...still waiting...still studying nav..any tips or hints anyone????

:ok:

WALSue 3rd March 2011 22:11

I know that feeling Winney when the weather drives you to ground school
As for studying nav, I found the best thing was lots of practice - draw lots of lines on your charts, and try calculation with various wind speeds/directions.
You can check what you've done against the online E6B calculators

Good luck and hope you get back up again soon!

Plasmech 3rd March 2011 22:29

You did stalls on your first lesson? Wow I am about to take my 4th and have not done a full blown stall yet. Cool stuff.

Plasmech 3rd March 2011 22:31

Did my 12th lesson on the 30th dec.2010.

precautionary circuits..

a bit rusty and weather was a bit foggy but did quite well.

next lesson to be booked in a couple of weeks i hope.

ordered my navigation equipment

start studying again for nav
What did you purchase for navigation if you don't mind me asking? Charts and a hand-held GPS?

Winneybobs 28th March 2011 20:02

I got a half mill southern map for exam questions, a crp-5(notcheap), a ruler for half and quarter mill, a square protractor, a quarter mill central map and some permanent markers.

I hope i dont need anything else...im skint...lol:rolleyes:

14th lesson

Really enjoyed this lesson

went down the low level corridor at manchester (llc) tony showed me what to look out for.
went round ashcroft and oulton park. flew over kenyon hall farm.

returned to barton with a practice engine failure on approach with wind 15kts.
flapless approach. didnt need them and landed perfect.

next lesson on wednesday 13th april.

Winneybobs 13th April 2011 21:25

15th lesson

flew around wigan and parbold way.

done practice force landings (pfl)

picking out fields after engine failures.

tony showed me the side slip and high approach with engine failure.

landed on rwy 20 with side slip.

great lesson again.

:D

Plasmech 13th April 2011 23:39

Did my 15th lesson this past Saturday. Pattern work, pattern work, and more pattern work. My landings are really coming along. Making the first of two turn-offs every time now, something I was not doing before my 15th lesson. Feels good being able to get her planted down and on the brakes with tons of runway remaining. If I keep this up I may be able to do stop-and-goes on the 3,400 foot runway. Would get maybe 30% more landings in per lesson!

Winneybobs 14th April 2011 19:45

well done plasmech. keep it up. next lesson on the 26th april.

weather permitting might do my first land away at blackpool. need to do part 2 of my pfl s sometime. doing my checks etc and hopefully do a short field landing..

cant wait.

i did a side slip landing on wednesday. very cool. alls well.:D

Plasmech 14th April 2011 19:59

Thanks Winney.

Have you soloed yet?

I am so anxious to solo. I know that when the time comes my heartbeat will go through the roof, at least until I get it stabilized and attain my calm/cool (I seriously hope).

Good work on your part as well.

Winneybobs 22nd April 2011 21:04

Winneybobs 27th April 2011 18:12

16th Lesson

My first land away...Blackpool airport.

did some navigation en route.

first attempt at landing on tarmac runway. ballooned a bit but other than that did good. I used the papi lights like a proper pilot hahaha. a waiting bae 146 must of thought look at that novice haha. I didnt mind thats what I want to fly if all goes well. Great looking jet with 4 engines.
had fish and chips at the local cafe then came back.took off with no flaps. didnt need them the runway is massive for my little c150 haha. departure info told us to go over st annes pier then southport pier. hit a bit of rain over southport but it was good viz. came into barton on 09r straight in.
another great lesson.

next one on tuesday 3rd may 2011 6pm.
2nd part of my pfls.

:D:D:D:ok::ok::ok:

rich_g85 27th April 2011 18:26

Awesome!

Just remember the PAPI lights will guide you to the ILS touchdown zone - about 1000? feet down the runway. Probably not where your instructor would prefer you to land! :)

Winneybobs 5th May 2011 21:01

17th lesson

thanx rich...thats what i thought when i came in and wondered why hahaha.

had my 17th on tuesday 3rd may 2011 at 6pm

it was a hot day and humid. i was sweating in the cockpit. i could hardly remember my checks but was soon prompted by tony.
Did some high approaches with idle engine and a side slipped. got into it and felt more comftorble with it now. I enjoyed it in the end.
