PPL at Newcastle
 

I am hoping to start training for a PPL in the spring and was wondering where to do my training? I know there are 2 schools at newcastle and have looked at the websites but dont know which one to go for (I think they are Northumbria Flying School and St George Flight Training. And are there any flying schools at eshot? Any advice would be great. I hope to go on to do commercial training and maybe be an instructor can I do that at newcastle at Either St George or Northumbria?

I completed my PPL with Northumbria Flying School and cannot praise them enough, they have been at Newcastle since the flying club closed and have a good mix of instructors with a lot of experience.
Eshott is unlicensed therefore has unable to provide flight instruction for the PPL; although I believe a NPPL can be obtained at an unlicensed airfield (I might be completely wrong, but i'm sure someone will correct me).

Flying out of Newcastle, despite being a busy airfield is fine as the GA area is on the opposite side of the airfield from the commercial operations and Air Traffic Control are very supportive and will fit you in as soon as possible. Only around 4-5pm in the evening have I ever had to wait more then 10 minutes on the ground or orbit on base.

I last flew with NFS about 2 years ago,

St George's is only based at Newcastle on a part-time basis. Their main business is at Teesside. Northumbria is based at Newcastle permanently, with a base at Eshott.

At the moment, only St. George's offers commercial training, however Northumbria is busy preparing the CPL, MEP and IR courses. But I shouldn't think this matters too much at your stage anyway.

If you haven't already, I would highly recommend a visit to both establishments and meet some people. It will make your decision easier.

NPPL(M) and NPPL(SLMG) yes, but no NPPL SSEA.

St George Flight Training is 100% a full-time operation at Newcastle Airport! Seems like there are to many happy students to keep airborne.

Like has previously been mentioned, take a visit to both schools and have a chat with the instructors who you'll be flying with.

I've just started learning with Northumbria, but St Georges are available full time there too. You pays your money and you takes your choice. Newcastle may as well be called 'Sleepy Hollow International'... its so quiet....
