Austro engine gets EASA Type Certificate
According to a press release from Diamond, EASA have issued a Type Certificate for their Austro diesel engine, and they are now installing it on new DA42s - which must be good news for them.
Given that Exxon are refusing to refuel DA42s in the USA, I wonder what will be the effect of this note in the TC: "The E4 engine is approved for operation with jet fuels. A minimum cetane number of 37 (determined according EN ISO 5165/ASTM D613) is recommended." Is that information readily available, when you buy Jet A? |
What about an FAA TC?
Anyway this is good news for Diamond's cash flow who can now start shifting their large number of sold but undeliverable airframes. Personally, however, I think we are back to when the original Thielert diesel came out, and it will be a long wait to get the bugs ironed out of this one, or to make sure there are no major ones. I'd give it 5 years. |
Good news - we are looking forward to working with Diamond to sort out our DA42s!
