Wolfgang Langewiesches Stick and Rudder.

When I've taught the subject I've mostly used either "Flight without Formulae" by Kermode or the newer (and in my opinion better, but slightly more mathematical) "Introduction to Flight" by Anderson. Both you can get on Amazon or from a good university bookshop.

"See How it Flies" by John S. Denker is an excellent reference, covering off a lot of the technical detail without becoming too boring.
EDIT: Oops - I see Islander2 has already mentioned it! While I'm at it, another vote for the all-time classic Stick and Rudder. |
