Cost of FRTOL application
Hello all,
Two days ago I sat (and passed) my FRTOL exam as part of my PPL. I have completed the FRTOL application along with the examiner and my CFI and am preparing to send it off, along with a copy of my Class 1 medical and a copy of my birth certificate as per the instructions on the form. However, I have looked at the CAA scheme of charges, and it states that the cost of an FRTOL application is £67, unless you are qualified to act as a pilot or are in posession of a medical certificate. If I have read this correctly, I assume that, being a Class 1 holder, I am exempt from the £67 fee? Could someone confirm this for me please? Smithy |
Don't send off your radio licence until you have passed your PPL. Do both together and you'll only get charged £67 for both.

Thank you Whirly.

Your CFI and the Examiner should be using the latest version of Form SRG\1105 http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/SRG1105.pdf which is a combined PPL(Aeroplanes) and FRTOL application form. It's only been out since September 2007, after all.......:hmm:
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...rnet/zxzxz.jpg The equivalent for PPL(Helicopters) is http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/SRG1127.pdf The fee for the initial grant of a PPL(A) with FRTOL is £168. For re-issue (thanks to the JAA...) after 5 years, the fee is a further £67. All due for review in March. |
The FRTOL is issued FREE of CHARGE to holders of any other UK issued flight crew licence. Thats why the application form contains a section for details of that licence.
It is also issued FOC to persons training for a UK licence, again there is a section for the details. So as long as you have a valid medical certificate you can get a free FRTOL using FCL508 SRG 1106.http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/SRG1106FF.pdf Read the notes on the back! |

My examiner printed the form for me before I arrived for my test so I had no control over this; I did not have any notes with it unfortunately, only the application part, but thank you for the clarification. Glad that's 67 quid saved. Thanks Smithy |
