Ideas for gaining experience
It was suggested to me that the best way to gain experience was to team up with another inexperienced PPL and share trips together, that way you can't rely on each other since you are both just as bad as each other :}
I think is sounds an excellent way to improve and gain more flying experience. So if there is anyone from Old Sarum that also thinks it's a good idea and wants to team up with me, PM me. I did my PPL in the Bulldog and ideally would like to fly once a month as P1, and then once again as your passenger. So that in effect is flying every fortnight. Any other confidence building/interesting route suggestions greatly appreciated. |
Personally, I found it more helpful to team up with a much more experienced PPL IMC. This meant that I could immediately set off on longer trips in more marginal weather and visit lots of new places. With the right partner you can enjoy a very quick learning curve.
The only downside, if you are sharing flying once a month, is that you find you are not doing many landings and, in the Winter months, you can find yourself worrying about the 90 day rule. The other thing you need to think about before deciding to fly with another PPL no matter how experienced they are. You need to be very clear about who is in command on each flight especially in those inevitable hairy moments. |

and it might also be worth trying here;http://fly.dsc.net/u/Buddy I've done the same as you; based at Old Sarum - and mutual flying is certainly the way forward, but sadly I'm about to complete my hours building! |

I fly with 2 other NPPL holders and we try to fly at least once a week and fly triangular routes of about an hour each so we all get a takeoff and landing. The costs are shared between us. It gives the NPPL holders a chance to fly in more marginal conditions as I have a current IMC. Shy_one |
