Quick Law Question
Hi Peeps,
I am considering signing up to the CATS online PPL course. Has anyone any experience of their PPL course? Secondly, I have accessed their trial database and noted these 2 questions which I can't get my head around. My query is how do you get IFR from IFR (Q1) and how can IFR & VFR not be permitted in Class F but you still get an advisory service in Class F (Q2-D )? 1. Which of the following services are provided in Class D airspace? i) IFR from IFR and receipt of information regarding VFR ii) VFR receive traffic information of all flights iii) IFR and VFR are permitted subject to ATC A) i only is correct B) ii and iii only C) i and ii are correct only D) i, ii and iii Answer D 2. What service is provided in Class F? A) Flight Information Service and Alerting Service B) Flight Information Service only C) Alerting Service only D) IFR flights receive advisory service, IFR and VFR receive Flight Information if requested, IFR and VFR are not permitted Answer D |
Both answers are correct in U.K. airspace although the last part of the second question is a bit oddly worded. I think it is referring to the fact that you don't need permission to enter Class F airspace. The questions are both talking about separation which is why it mentions IFR from IFR.
Incidentally, the first is not correct if you are flying the USA, despite what ICAO says. |
Noted with thanks but what does IFR from IFR mean.
|
it means that IFR traffic is seperated from other IFR traffic in that airspace, by ATC...
|
It looks like you have missed some of the wording out of the question--you cant get IFR from IFR it dosnt make sense, you can get IFR traffic seperated by ATC from other IFR traffic
IFR and VFR are not permitted |
Quote: IFR and VFR are not permitted dosnt make sense, unless flying is banned! haha, well... maybe once greenpeace, and everysmall town with a potentail airstrip or climate conscience anorak get their way ! :} |
Yea
Welcome to England where verything is is either banned or about to be banned! |
It looks like you have missed some of the wording out of the question--you cant get IFR from IFR it dosnt make sense. llanfairpg Just gone back to check and the email wording matches the question exactly so for once, no mistake on my part! Still at least I know what the questions should be saying. Many thanks! |
Whats the URL of the CATS site and I will have a look
|
|
I have had a look at the website and eventually found out how to get some papers up--did you set that up as an intelligence test for me? I tried the papers, which served to remind me I need to do some revison again!!!! Thank you!
I think the problem is wording, as with many who write practice examination papers. I couldnt find the example you quoted but I thought a couple of questions were misleading, the one about QNH set on an altimeter for instance, and the one about medical fitness, they missed out the word significant when describing personal injury. If you cut your finger it is an injury but its not significant! |
Deeply worrying for a person who is trying to do some prep work for PPL. I have a number of resources to hand and I keep spotting errors in the material. In one respect that's a good thing but I would rather find some decent material to begin with!
|
Try 'The PPL Confuser' and the Jeremy Pratt books, thats the way forward we recommend.
Try Amazon or even Ebay for books |
Yup. I'm working with those as well as the new OAT book. The challenge is working out what you actually need to know. Each book has a different perspective and whilst each remains valid, the content varies quite a bit. The books even say that their content exceeds the JAR syllabus which isn't particularly helpful when I've been told that much of what you have to learn isn't really needed. Never mind, I'll just keep plugging on..........

I've been told that much of what you have to learn isn't really needed. Never mind, I'll just keep plugging on.... When I was doing my CPL at Cass College there was a guy who used to complain every day that he did not need to do plotting and navigation etc etc because all he wanted to be was a crop spraying pilot. The next time I saw him he was an air taxi pilot! |
Really? I guess he would have needed the "Knowledge" then! Sorry about the pun but when you are brand new everything seems interesting and important. I just don't want to overdo it!
|
Exactly!!!
I think you are being under confident, you will pass believe me! |
