Sunstate Aviation, Florida
 

Hi All,

Off to Sunstate Aviation at Kissimmee in 3 weeks to bring me back up to standard to renew my JAA PPL, which expires this November.

Just wondering if anyone has been to Sunstate or knows anyone that has, and if so, any tips on the school, what to ask for, what not to ask for, best places to fly cross countries, best tips for bringing myself up to standard having not flown for a few years, etc, etc, etc, etc?

Also it seems a great time to fly in Florida in Feb weather-wise. Can anyone confirm this?

I've flown there for the last few summer hols and will be doing so again next summer. As far as I know though they are not a JAA centre. All of their a/c are quite new and in very good condition. The nice thing about Orlando is that you're not far from east or west coast. Last year I did a bit of training on the G1000 which was good fun. A few nice short trips (all around an hour) are Lakelands, Vero Beach, Pilot Country, there's any amount of them. If your comming back from the west coast get your instructor to request vectors for an ILS approach. There's a good chance that ATC will route you over Disney which is normally a prohibited airspace but interesting to see from the air.

No it isn't JAA but then I'm only training to get back up to standard because I already have a license, but haven't flown for a few years, so am using them to do it. And I am having a JAA Examiner come test me out...

I flew there earlier last year on the 172, but I wanted to try out the 182 they've got - great machine!

It hardly moved, and it was very cheap too, but everyone was using the 172's.

Nice facility, modern aircraft and usual U.S prices - instructors were good, especially Mani.

Flew with Sunstate last summer BFR and about 10hrs all as previously said nice place,aircraft and people.Had my BFR with brian and i hadn`t flown in over a year very nice guy went through it all with me to get back on track.If i remember rightly deposited $2000 on account and got a lower rate with what was left credited back at the end.Have Fun.
