PPL Confuser Sought
 

I have started my PPL lessons recently & cannot find a copy of the PPL Confuser anywhere as they are out of print at the moment. If anyone has one for sale please contact me i would be very interested in buying it.

Hi all, just wondering what the options are for getting hold of practice questions for theppl theory exams? I have heard that the PPL confuser is very good however it seems to have gone out of print?!:{

What are other people using for exam prep? Any websites out there like there are fo the atpl exams.

Oxford PPL Exam Prep CD
 

Here's what I did to pass all the exams during the year through self study.

Read through the Trevor Thom books, answering the questions for each chapter after I'd read it. If I didn't get a high score or didn't understand why I'd got it wrong, then re-read that bit.

After reading a book, used the Oxford PPL Exam Prep CD (which came as part of my PPL study pack), repeating these until I got a pass every time.

Also used the iPhone App from Great Circle for one or two modules to practice when I had a few minutes to spare on a commute or other odd times. The spelling is atrocious, but there are detailed explanations behind the answers if you get them wrong.

I aimed to do about one exam a month - some are much easier than others, but which ones will depend on your own experience and interests.

Suggest you do the Air Law first because most flying schools insist you have this before going solo (although it isn't a legal requirement). Be aware that it's arguably the most boring module :) so all downhill after that.

I'd also recommend the Oxford VHF audio CD, although it doesn't include the latest changes to phraseology (such as Basic Service, Traffic Service) for when you come to do your practical VHF radio exam.

As above, the Q's at the back of the chapters in the Thom books are useful.

I'm surprised the confuser is out of print! It's a useful tool for that final knowledge testing/exam technique preparation prior to the exam, after reading the books etc......

Have you tried ebay for second hand copies? Has anyone at your club got one they no longer need that they can lend or sell you?

The airquiz website is good, very reasonably priced and if I remember correctly the questions were fairly similar in style to the real thing.

I have a copy of "The PPL Confuser", the green cover with a cessna on the front.

it is the ninth edition. One snag - The chapter on Human Performance and Limitations has fallen out and is missing. All the rest is there.

within sight of the ground etc...maybe the full moon in your eyes reduces your horizontal visibility?

i only purchased my copy new recently, you can still get hold of it if you wish, new that it.

Hi i'm Jamie and im new to this site! :)

Im currently in training for my PPL with currently 19 hours and hacking away at the theory (Starting with Air Law).
Looking through the forums people seem to recomend these 2 websites:

I was wondering if which one of these two websites is best to join, if it's best to join them at all? And is there any other advice to prepare for the exam?

I've only ever used the website airquiz.co.uk and have no experience with pplquz.co.uk so it's impossible for me to compare the two. However, I was very pleased with airquiz.co.uk and would definitely recommend the website.

If you have an iPhone I would also suggest you look into some of the available PPL apps.

Be sure to look on eBay for a copy of the PPL Confuser (ninth edition).

It's a first edition, and has some fairly obvious typos, but thankfully in non-critical areas, and having done my Air Law a couple of weeks ago I can say it was a VERY accurate representation of the paper I sat :ok:

I'm planning to do all of thePPL exams before going to America to do the flying.

I have received conflicting advice about which books are best to use. Some people have told me that when they did their PPLs the best thing to use was the PPL Confuser. But others tell me that it is now out of date and the newer books are likely to be more useful for todays exams.

Has anyone actually used both the Confuser and the Perfector or Simplifier? If so I would be grateful for your comments.

I teach a lot of groundschool at PPL level and have found the JAR PPL Perfector to be the most relevant for the exams. However there are a few annoying errors dotted here and there, with the wrong answers given. Hopefully this will be rectified in the 2nd edition.

Overall though, a good buy and for my students it has definitely been useful - alongside some decent groundschool instruction of course ;)

The PPL Confuser is a bit out of date now and for example only offers 3 alternative answers to each question when the exam papers have 4 to choose from.

The Simplifier is not so well matched to the way that the questions and answers are written in the real papers. However it is a good way of checking knowledge.

Hi. Ive read the book twice and I feel I'm ready for my exam on airlaw. I would like to pick either of the above up to double check I have everything covered and also to help me with the rest of the exams.

My school said that the Perfector is the only current one but the net seems to be using Confuser?

Which should I get? Do they date each year?

I couldn't find the Confuser either, so got a copy of an equivalent (Question and Answer Simplifier) published by AFE. The sample questions we almost idnetical to those in the actual exam.
Didn't use it for my Air Law, but should have as I only scraped it whereas all the others I've got 95% (so far!). Mind you Air Law is such a dull topic with lots of useless crap to remember.

I have the AFE Simplifier and the Perfector.

The Perfector is a godsend. Questions are VERY alike what you will meet in the exam.

I am sitting on 3 100%'s, a 95% and 1 85%. [Damm Met].

Hoping it sees me through Comms and Nav next.

Be careful with either, there will be new CAA PPL exams coming out pretty soon and either could be completely useless after that.
